I used the test that Ratbuell posted and these are the readings I got pins 1-2= 10v pins 1-3= 37.5v pins 2-3= 38v I am not exactly sure what this means. I am not exactly sure why the one would be so low while both of those pins were higher when involved with pin #3? I went for a ride and it would go up to 14-14.4 until it was over 195 deg. Then with the fans running it would stay around 13-13.2v at speed (rpms>3k) when I would stop at a light it would dip to 12.4 or so. My question is, and I am afraid I know the answer, is one of the legs on my stator done? I know it is anybody's guess but how long will it last with only the two? |

Yeah, you get a craps roll on how long it will take to fix it. Good dealer 1-2 weeks, bad dealer 3-? weeks. |

Those are similare readings to mine - i.e. your stator is shot. Oddly enough witht hose readings there is just enough power being produced to keep the bike running and charging as long as you don't spend a great deal of time in traffic. You could get the dealert to confirm your findings and then order a replacement stator while you keep riding the bike. IF you can, try to get HD to pay for a retrfit of an 08 stator/rotor... Failing that see if they'll pay for a rewind which is what they are doing for me... |

Yep, I am going to try to see if they will do an 08 swap. If not I will either pay for rewind myself, or buy a salvaged 08 motor and go retrofit it myself. |

Kinda nervous about the rewind... I mean I know it has to be better than just putting another 09 in there but it seems like some people are starting to have problems with those now too arent they? |

Just talked to the dealer, they said that they would be willing to put the 08 stator in.... but would not pay for the 08 rotor. Anybody got a price on the rotor? I would pony up for it if it's not astronomical. I remember the total being around 1800 but I forget what the breakdown was. |

08 rotor is pricey. In the 7-800$ range. IIRC |

I buy parts from online dealer who gives 20% discount. I'm not sure if I can publish it's name here, but I can send it to you. |

I wonder if the dealer I would be having do the service would allow me to bring them the rotor? They said that they would cover the stator but I would have to pay for the rotor. Also, do you have any idea the availability of these? If you want to pm me the site or dealer name then I can do the legwork. Thanks. |

Y0533.1AM Yup, that's the p/n for the 08 rotor. And yes it is available, should get it in a week or so from order date. It IS inordinately expensive. I have to look at people ALL day long and tell them these prices... I really wish H-D would get a clue... Z |
