Just spoke to the dealer, HD refused to put an 08 stator in the bike but also said they had no 09 stators available to fix the issue. (I'm in the UK so that nay be different for you guys in ther US) They authorised the dealer to ship the stator for a rewind and that's what they have done. They (fortunately) selected the same stator rewind company I was planning on using post-warranty (they have already rewound a few for 1125s already) so I'll call them tomorrow and ask them to reduce the output a little and to use a thicker guage wire. A bit of a "good news/bad news" situation I guess.. The rewind company have a really good reputation (that's why I picked them) so I guess that's better than having another OEM 09 stator fitted. I have mixed feelings, TBH I guess it's a pretty good outcome.... Another odd thing, the dealer speaking to HD was asked if it had the harness upgrade, when he said yes the person at HD UK said: "That figures, seems like all the ones with the harness update are failing" Now, I know that's not 100% accurate, and it's unlikely to be the harness upgrade CAUSING the failure, but that did make me laugh (and the dealer too LOL) Bike should be back in about 2 weeks |

My 1125 should be picked up on Friday. I've already had a look for someone who can rewind the stator if (when) needed. Who is the UK company you have found that have 1125 experience? Thanks Peter |

The stator shorted to ground at 5000 miles on my 09 CR. It had the harness fitted at 600 miles. The stator was replaced and HD told the dealer to disconnect the harness. |

My first stator failed without the harness upgrade. Then, the harness failed, and more likely the stator would have failed, but it didn't. The dealer replaced the stator, the rotor, and the VR, but they didn't find that the harness relay is what failed. I replaced the relay myself, and I now have completely new charging system. |

That's a great outcome. I hope they carry it forward, and authorize a "to new spec" rewind for everyone. The best outcome would be to do the real fix (that some ex Buell employees know but that Harley didn't execute). |

Who is the UK company you have found that have 1125 experience? Peter - it's http://www.westcountrywindings.co.uk/ Unit 17 Kingstons Farm Matching Green Harlow Essex, CM17 0RB Telephone 01279 731172 Email westco@fsmail.net The price is very good to at £125 and they have confirmed that they've done some for Buell dealers in the past as warranty repairs. |

It'll be stripped, shot blasted, powder coated, rewound with thicker wire then epoxy coated and slow baked... sounds perfect to me. And as HD are footing the bill I am not going to complain! |

Good for you. Sounds to be the perfect solution and HD is paying. Larger wire = more mechanically stability = less strain on the insulation. And, less windings = less heat generated. Exactly what I'd do. This is the second report of HD authorizing a rewind. I wonder if they're not buying anymore stators since warranty expiration is imminent for almost all the last batch of 1125s sold. |

I still have over 3 years of warranty left on my bike, I hope they don't stop making parts |

I spoke to the rewind company today, they're also getting a lot of KTM stators through (mainly manufactured in Taiwan/Far East). Mine should be ready soon, rewound to the same spec as an 09 but with higher grade wire. Just to correct what I said earlier, they don't expoxy coat after winding, they varnish it as they've found that lasts better especially where cooling is "marginal" (my words not theirs) The lady on the phone was very knowledgable about all things "wire grade" and "stator" related and gave me a LOT of confidence. The rewound stator comes with 12 month's warranty and as they know it's going on my bike I get to "own" that warranty so even when my HD warranty runs out I'll still have 6 months left on the stator.. That's not a bad result all round as far as I am concerned. (Message edited by Jules on July 21, 2011) |

I had RM stator rewind my stator with one size larger wire and only varnish coated as I also believe heavy epoxy traps the heat in. I had my stator leads lengthened and went up one gauge so I could move my RR up front into the air stream and am now running a 50 amp Cycle electrics switching RR.All connections are now soldered, great and consistent voltage but I have only 900 km on this setup and will post updates as mileage increases. |

My 09 1125R has had the harness upgrade fitted since the mod was first shipped. I also fitted an FH 012AA about 9 months ago. Not had an issue to date but I am sure this is tempting fate. Since the bike is now being used for the track only I am going to take the harness mod off since the engine will rarely be operating below 5000 rpm. |

Now have 3400 Km on my new stator, pulled cover tonight to have a look and no dark spots or signs of over heating |

The name West Country Windings always makes me smile, seeing as you can't get much further east than Essex ... They will be getting mine when my stator goes, unless a better solution is found beforehand. 5,500 miles and counting, and about 5 months warranty left. Got the bike back from the dealership about an hour ago - just in time for the camping trip tomorrow. Haven't had time to check anything out yet but voltage at idle is 14.0V when hot and with both fans on. I'll whip the connector off on Tuesday when i get back and check the ACV, just to comapre it to OEM. My (rewound) stator has a 12 month warranty, so that'll last longer than the remaining 6 months of my HD warranty. That's handy LOL |

Aw nuts - just got a customs bill for $150 for the parts. it's a bit "hit & miss" whether they open the package but this time they did. Ah well, it's still worth it |
