Can anyone tell me the procedure for checking the output of the stator? I seem to remember reading on here a way to check it with a multimeter at a plug under the seat

Ratbuell posted this in an earlier thread and it is correct:

AC Output Check
1. Test AC output as follows:
a. Disconnect voltage regulator connector [46] from alternator stator wiring.
b. See Figure 3-18. Connect an AC voltmeter across stator connector terminals 1-2.
c. Run the engine at 3000 RPM. The AC output should be 45-55 Volts AC.
d. Repeat the test across terminals 2-3 and 1-3.

The easiest connector to get to is the one under the rider's seat near the airbox cover, disconnect that and test all 3 legs in pairs..

It's worth testing all 3 wires to earth too (should be open cct) and if you have an accurate enough meter then the resistance between each "pair".. my meter wasn't accurate enough for that..

Thank you, I know I am being picky now but my computer here at work isn't doing the search function properly, any chance there were any pictures in that thread from earlier?

Of course it was correct. Hard to screw up a copy/paste : )

It's the connector under the baro solenoid. Remove the seat, look at the back edge of the airbox lid, find the connector with the big honkin' yellow wires coming out of it. Unplug it. Test the end coming from under the airbox.
