Just was washed this this yesterday. It's the Corsa III Stock tire. I told the Harley guys they put the belt on backwards but they don't seem to be worried about it. It's pretty frayed in one spot. Thoughts?    | ||

I see nothing in the repair manual indicating the drive belt is directional is it marked? the fraying - can you find it rubbing anywhere? | ||

Its coming from your belt more than likely. I had the same problem after changing tires. When i put the wheel back on i didn't tighten the idler wheel all the way and it started to back out throwing the tension off. The belt moved over to the left a little like yours is showing and was rubbing the belt guard and flaking off. My belt looks like that on the left hand side to because it was rubbing. Just make sure all of your hardware is tight around the front pulley and you should be ok. | ||

I was thinking that correct orientation was so that you could read the writing when the belt was installed. Plus you never want to reverse one that has already been "broken in" | ||

According to an annony, your belt is backwards. At this point, if it ain't broke, don't fix it IMO. The rubber you are seeing is from the tires. The fraying is normal Russmannnn - You don't need to touch the tensioner to do belt or tire changes on any XB or 1125. | ||

Belt looks normal to me and I agree with Froggy - no need to do anything with the tensioner when removing/replacing the rear wheel.. | ||

The small grooves in the belt teeth make it walk to the right. Probably because the rear pulley only has an edge on the right side for tire changes. Keeps it aligned so it doesn't try to walk off the pulley. When I roll backwards it walks to the left on mine with the belt on correctly (Message edited by 01_turbowolf on July 18, 2011) | ||

I was told that when new it doesn't matter which way round the belt is fitted, but it's HD technicians protocol to fit it so that you can read the writing when standing to the left so that if the belt is removed you do not have to remember which way it's oriented - once a belt has been fitted it is not wise to reverse it under any circumstances. | ||

That's from the rear tire. I wasted a set riding Deals Gap and beyond last year and that's where allot of the tire ended up. My belt is fine and rides against the inside of the pulley and readable from left. | ||

I agree with Rob it's likely the tire. I get those all the time as track rubber "boogers" up at the edges and those little hot balls of rubber pop off and stick to the wheels. I get them on the front wheel, too, where it's quite unlikely it would be the belt causing it. | ||

This has just been happening recently... Maybe I'm riding that much harder with the warm weather? I have never been to the track, but I do use the whole tire on the street (no chicken strips) Yes the belt moves back over to the inside, towards the wheel, when I roll it backwards. Could it be because the tire is near death? Like, I need a new one. Got something like 8k on this biotch just riding to and from work on the street in a almost straight line. I used to get no more than 3k riding to and from LA everyday (130 mile round trip) | ||

Has nobody actually looked at their belt? There are directional grooves on the teeth for it to stay Aligned on the rear pulley. You have to be able to read it correctly from the left side of the bike. From the picture your belt backwards. It should be flipped | ||

I have two 1125R belts, two 1125CR belts, two XB-long belts, two Blast belts. With the exception of one CR belt and one Blast belt, I checked all of mine, none have these groves you mention, they are smooth as silk on the teeth. | ||

He must be talking about the "cords", if you will, in the belt? How they are diagonal like in my pictures? I wouldn't call them grooves... | ||

I see the same "grooves" in yours but looks like a lot more miles on that belt... Not that it would really matter because if you flip that belt around the "grooves" will still be oriented the same way... | ||

Froggy, I had to go out in the garage and check my 1125R belt. I can see the cords running at an angle in mine, but they are nowhere near as pronounced as in captain america's pictures. Actually, it looks smooth on certain parts of each tooth. I think it might wear away. I have about 8500 miles on mine. | ||

Thats the Kevlar in the belt I think you are talking about, I believe they are directional belts from my experience with drive belts whether it be a CVT belt for a Vespa or a Drive belt for a primary drive on a Harley. | ||

I have somewhere around 15k on this belt. The factory belt broke around 4k. My bike sees 140 at least a couple times a week. My belt/sprocket have turned blue in the past... IDK why that happens either. You can see the blue teeth in the above pic also.  So the consensus is that I SHOULD NOT have the belt flipped over? You know what? the pic I just posted ^^^ is when the belt was lined up... you can tell by the blue. I wonder when it got switched??? Maybe when they changed the swing arm or tire or something? | ||

I get that "dust" also I have an '09 1125 R w/original belt and over 17,000 miles on it. Belt is smooth on the sides "no frey" and no cords really visable on the teeth. I would upload picks but I'm on my iPhone. | ||

Something is rubbing the tire... i had this happen when the fender eliminator broke and dropped the license plate into the tire.. it got stuck in the swing arm. check for obstructions. |
