While on vacation 350 miles from home stator #2 bit the dust. So, its still under warrantee. Should I get another bad stator or go with Custom Rewind. Or better yet, sell the beast and get either a BMW S1000RR or their 650 adventure bike. Aughhhhhh |

See if the warranting (is that a word?) dealer will put an 08 stator setup in the bike for you. Custom rewind is still unproven. A batch got done with an improper wire. ac |

I second the 08 solution. That's what I've done, that and a Compufire RR. Unfortunately I got myself into some upside down off road high speed adventure last week, so I can't tell you if the charging system issues have truly been solved or not. But I suspect that they have. Now on with the part search (sigh) |

Get the dealer to put in the 08 stuff, problem solved. |

Julie - I'll talk to Eloy about 08 parts. Last time we talked about it, that was not an option tho. Sure hate to see you get rid of your baby for a "fixable" problem. I'll see you and Dan Sunday, sorry your trip got cut short. Zack |

Zack, If the 08 parts are not an option, I wouldn't classify the 09 stator as a "fixable" problem just yet. There is no CONCLUSIVE repair to this point. ac |

Tony - Just because the 08 parts aren't free, doesn't make them unavailable. Pricey, absolutely. Fixable - also absolutely. Z |

Zack, Touche. However, I couldn't justify putting $1k worth of parts into a depreciating bike that I COULD get "fixed" for free and sell. ESPECIALLY knowing the replacement part is no better than what failed...TWICE. I have been watching values. Over the winter it looked like $6k-6500 was a going price, I am starting to see $5500-6k now. The OP clearly wants another bike, this seems like a good "out" point for him. If my 09 goes under warranty again, I will be hoping for 08 parts...a FAIR compromise might be the dealer/HD covering the 08 STATOR and labor, with the owner picking up the bill for the rotor only. If that doesn't work, I will probably let them "fix" it and sell it. I'll keep the 08 that is "reliable" for my 1125 fix. *knocks on wood* With all of the teething problems the 08s had...who would have ever thought they would be considered the pinacle of 1125 reliability! Once the tuning was figured out and the brake line re-routed, the 08 became and AWESOME motorcycle. ac |

08's are the best. If you dont like your hot frame, stick some dynomat on the backside of the frame and go ride. |

You must of forgotten about the issues the 08s, especially the early ones had. |

Froggy, Trust me, I didn't forget! My 08 was early. Within the first 4k miles it was a mess. In and out of the dealerships constantly. However, once the teething was over, it stabilized and is an awesome motorcycle. With no new development into the 09 stator, I don't see an end to the teething with HD for the 09. ac |

Avc8130 - change occurs at different rates. Some are now getting the 2008 setup under warranty. No warranty/DIY folks are using a company called Custom Rewind. Custom rewind is on stator version 2. We have learned that stator rotors are being modified to increase oil flow. We have also learned that the Compufire is a series regulator and that will help to preserve the stator. Change is coming it is just coming slow. |

Danny, 1. Zack works for a dealer and he JUST posted that 08 stators were not an option under warranty from HD. Maybe he has bad info? 2. Custom Rewind V2 has 0 conclusive testing and is a big "?" still. 3. Who has modified the rotors? Erik Buell Racing? There has not been a post yet about one ACTUALLY INSTALLED AND TESTED in an 1125. 4. I CALLED Compufire. They told me DIRECTLY that they have NO products suitable for use on the 1125. I am not trying to start a war. I am just trying to make the OP aware of the FACTS and not just conjecture. He asked if he should sell his bike. ac |

.a FAIR compromise might be the dealer/HD covering the 08 STATOR and labor, with the owner picking up the bill for the rotor only. Have you seen the price of the rotor? In the UK (where I am) it's £800 ($1200) I've seem them online in the US for $650 ish... I don't think it at all fair that I would have to pay $1200 (I am in the UK) to get an acceptable (to me) repair on a warranteed bike. That's the impass I find myself with HD at the moment. I'm contemplating letting the bike go too.. for me it's a point of principal, I'm not prepared to give HD a dime of my hard earned cash to fix THEIR problem. I'll just reject the bike and take them to court under the sales of goods act (the vehicle not being fit-for-purpose). |

1. couple of posts here have gotten 08 setup from dealer. 2 Yes 3 Yes 4 Yes, they most likely want the plug and play sale that has much less risk. HD is famous for selling bikes that need to be sorted out. Buell is no different. It goes with the territory |

Sorted out means debugging. HDs' and Buells need to be sorted out, debugged. Most imports are debugged in their domestic and/or european markets before they get to America. HD and thus Buell didn't do business this way, which pretty much means that everyone who bought one is a debugger to one degree or another. |

No, Excellent exceptions. Go to europe or japan and you may see next years American car today. Fiat 500s' were popular, proven and accepted in europe long before coming to America. Would I own one? Maybe. |

Zack, if you talk to Eloy that would be great. I hate to keep putting something back on the bike that I KNOW is going to break down again. This stator lasted 4 months and maybe 2500 miles. Its a drag having in the back of my mind while riding "is it gonna make it". |

Haven't looked today but i know i am close to an oil change about 3,000 miles |

jewells- In order to cope with the unreliability of the 1125, I traded my xb for an f800. Now I use the f800 for errands, trips, etc., and have the 1125 for a play toy. The 1125 has left me stranded twice since I got the f800, but I was not too far from home and still had something to ride while the 1125 was down. If a second bike is an option for you, it would eliminate having to make the decision of getting rid of the 1125...at least for now. |

I have a second bike, a ZZR1100 so I am not "bikeless" otherwise I'd quickly go insane... But today, I'm off on a "memorial run" and have to take my "old man's touring bike" (the ZZR) rather than my preferd choice, because (once again) that choice isn't available.. I'm not entirely sure what the point of owning something that'll only let me ride it occassionally is... |

I've decided not to take the bike back to the dealer as of yet. I want to see if the owners are willing to help with the expense of putting the '08 stator and rotor in instead of the unreliable '09 stator. If they are not willing to work with me I will be sending the stator off to Custom Rewind. I would love to have the BMW650 adventure bike. I also go dirt biking and the idea of seeing a dirt road and say "Let's go there" seems like a really fun time. Unfortunately, purchasing another bike is not in the budget at this time. So, worse case scenario is I go two up with my hubby. |

Well, I am taking the bike to the dealers tomorrow, Sunday, and hopefully will be getting the '08 stator/rotor. Since we are going to be there, the hubby and I are renting (free of charge) the Road Glide Ultra for the day and go play in the hills of Colo on a....... harley |

Julie, I talked to Eloy yesterday and he said you and Dan were coming in today. He said y'all will be getting a new 08 stator/rotor set. I thanked him. Still not H-D policy as I understand, but dealer "goodwill". See y'all in a couple of hours. Can't wait to see you two on an FLTRU. Zack |
