Just got back from my CO trip. Right at 3000 miles with 600 of that on Colorado mountain roads. 1125R ran great. Averaged 42 MPG for the trip. Actually a pretty comfortable sport tour bike, I did the trip in two days each way. About 720 miles first day and 500 second day. The Airbox is pretty comfortable to lay/lean on at least for us vertically challenged. Was cruising at 115 in western Kansas on the way out....for about 10 min when I happened to check the instant MPG reading and realized I wouldn't make the next town before running out of gas if I didn't slow down.:-) On the way home I did get a warning in Western Kansas from a State Trooper for 79 in a 65. He clocked me at the most opportune time since I had been at approximately 85 for most of my time in Kansas....hehe. Very nice Trooper. Told me that there would be more Troopers to the east and they would probably write a ticket, Point taken. US 36 beats the hell out of I-70. Keeps you out of Kansas City and St.Louis, F*** big cities, I'm a small town guy. Impossible to get gas without having a conversation with a local and $45 roadside motels rock. | ||

Very cool. I discovered the same thing about comfort and long-haul-ability on my CR on Memorial Day. 750 miles for the day, on the Blue Ridge Parkway (and to and from the BRP from Maryland). Just because it was there, and I had the day off  Every mile, I'm more and more impressed with my CR. I love my tubers and my XB...but the 1125 is lightyears ahead of all of them. Truly amazing. I can't wait to see what's next! | ||

I envy you, I have tried to make this very same trip for a few years now, unfortunately it has not worked out for me...Great to hear you had a wonderful safe journey...I am still jealous though! | ||

I did the same thing as you and had the same exact thing happen when I bought my CR in Michigan and rode it home to California. I was constantly in the triple digits going through Kansas. I couldn't wait to get out of that flat ass state. That was the only place I got pulled over my whole trip and I only got a warning. Kansas troopers love Buells I guess. Helps having a Buell since most cops have Harleys, so they have to cut you more slack than if you were just riding another R6. | ||

i tell you what, you long haul guys have my respect. i love my cr in spurts, but that seat really cripples me if i spend any real time on it!! | ||

The most I've ever done in one day on my 1125R is 650 miles. About 80 of that was hwy, the rest was twisty backroads. The 1125R does quite well for 'sporty' sport touring. The only comfort mod is a Corbin. | ||

Another tip is an MP3 player, helps to have something other than your sore ass to think about..hehe. | ||

agreed, 1125R is a great platform for touring I just got back from 10 days, 3500 miles, SD to Colo. All back roads, lots of desert (110 degrees) and mountain (over 6000ft elevation) twistys. Bike was flawless and perfect. Mods included baldwin seat, American Sport Bike highbars, precision engineering pegs, zero gravity windscreen..... custom rewind stator | ||

I forgot to list my "Mods" 1. Denoid 2. Garmin GPS on poorly fitting ram mount (needs longer arm) 3. Leaky clutch....oh never mind thats stock  4. Textile saddle bags and tail bag. 5. LOTS of bug guts by the middle of Kansas |
