Only got about 3k miles on it and I get a lot of head shake/pulsing/etc when I hit the brakes and when I'm below 10mph coming to a stop I can feel it grab in 1 place during the rotation. Where should I start? Retorquing the rotor bolts? I'm using the new springless rotor kit from E-B-R and the performance pads they sell as well. Could it be air in the line? Anyone else running these parts? |

Go ahead and check the torque values. were the pads bedded in properly? Start small and work up to more difficult: Get a good look at the rotor for irregularities. Try shooting some brake cleaner on the rotor. Could be soot build up and/or uneven surface causing pulsation. (Message edited by torquaholic on June 28, 2011) |

did you leave the bike parked out in the rain for a while? reason i ask is since you say it's only in one spot, and i've seen a rotor etched from where it was parked out in the rain. basically the water was held against the rotor and it had little pits within the outline of the pads contact surface. either way, checking your torque values is good to cover your bases. cleaning the rotor/pads will not hurt and is easy to do. (be careful not to mess up your rims with any chemicals) next up on my troubleshooting list would be to lightly scuff the rotor surfaces with some sandpaper/emrycloth. i'd think that air in the brake system would have a uniform effect on lever feel/brake forces. no, i do not have any Erik Buell Racing rotors or pads |

Same problem here with the same components, after about 3K also. After I cleaned the rotor with a rotor hone, I put a dial indicator on the rotor and the wheel, the wheel is getting close to the max. spec of .030" runout, it measures .027". The rotor seems to have some deflection between the mount points which is a little weird, total runout on the rotor after shimming is about .006 - .007". So I tried a different, stock rotor (cleaned with hone)that has a little less runout (.004-.006") and the shudder mostly went away, but I can still barely feel a light'thumping' that seems in time with the wheel revolutions. I think it is the runout of the wheel that is causing this. It's got one spot that is just slightly flattened out a bit on the lip, hardly noticeable, probably from a a chuckhole or something. I think the nearly rigid E B R mounting kit is much more sensitive to having good, true wheels with little runout to them and same for the rotors. (Message edited by Lampo on June 28, 2011) |

I had a couple hundred easy street miles before I rode the Dragon where I did not have this problem. It seems to be a progressing problem, didnt happen overnight. It did sit through a rainstorm in TN but was ridden the next day. I will recheck tq values and look over the hardware first I guess. It's a pretty bad shake and the severity of the shake/pulsing is directly related to lever pressure. |

sounds to me like you need to clean your rotor ... and/or try some EBC/sintered pads (Message edited by nillaice on June 28, 2011) |

Take a picture of your rotor for me. It could be anything from pad deposits to an out-of-round, but still-in-spec front wheel. Once i know what kind of heat load you are putting into the rotor I can help you diagnose. What pads are you using? Kevin -- that's you, right? Bring your bike out to ECR Saturday and I'll help you solve this. I've got a whole garage full of alternate parts and test equipment to diagnose exactly what's going on. I've got a lot of experience with these parts. A couple of other buell guys are coming up from College Station to ride this weekend, too. |

> The rotor seems to have some deflection between the mount points which is a little weird, > total runout on the rotor after shimming is about .006 - .007". I've had this conversation with the guys at Erik Buell Racing. It is my OPINION the Erik Buell Racing kit expects a front wheel that is considerably more true than the typical one that came from the factory. Do this: Replace the copper stock copper washers with this McMaster part: 94397A478 It's likely you will need fresh disc springs, so order these: 9712K69. You may reuse the rotor bolts, but put a few drops of blue on them. These copper washers are THIN and WILL WEAR at an accelerated rate. Plan on servicing the rotor relatively frequently (perhaps every front tire or so?) with fresh hardware. But, it's cheap and effective. I'm working on a solution that uses a different steel washer so you can use the Erik Buell Racing copper washer instead of my specification. I have the parts ordered, but have not track tested them yet. If you are a racer, you will anneal those spring washers, so order a few packs and keep them on hand. They need to be swapped frequently. I've been testing some made of inconel, but they are too rigid, so some of the shudder comes back. Report back, please. |

Kevin, FYI - Jim's referring to me when he mentioned the other buellers. A buddy of mine from Conroe will be picking me up in College Station, trucking the bikes up to ECR late Friday night. He's riding his '04 GSXR 1000 and I'll be on my 1125. Jeff's not a buell guy, but he is an avid biker. We'll be on track Saturday. Jim said the hours are 7am-3pm. |

I wish I had the time to track with you guys but I've got to change the rear tire on my gf's XB and readjust the suspension for her as well. My bike still needs the oil changed as well.... |

Strap it to the bike. I carried two tires on the back of my 1125R about 150 miles to get them changed, then I drove another 250 miles with the old tires on the back. Hell I've even transported TVs and large boxes. You can carry pretty much anything as long as it isn't stupidly heavy. |

Your bike is probably fine. Its a member day and we are likely to be the only ones there. What size do you wear for leathers? |

Jim, You might actually get him out on the track this time! Kevyn, You don't need your front brake when your front wheel is in the air! |

we developed a new stronger brake disc: http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp? guid=YXHFSC&aid=3356&cid=9769&s=&a=&aname=Buell_XB _and_1125_wave_FRONT_brake_disk_all_models After long testing on the track and road, it holds better then the 5mm and the 6 mm, and the braking disc (-: We also are developing a new solution for the Caliper. There is not enough free play on the pads, that causes extrem heat development on the brake rotor, soon available. We also developed our own brake pads to go with it just to be sure (-: Have a look here for the info: http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/index.asp?gu id=YXHFSC&cid=9769 The factory Galfer in Spain is making these parts exclusivly for us. |
