I currently have a 2008 Buell 1125r. I used to run a D & D exhaust but eventually took it off due to the extreme loudness. I loved the sound but unfortunately my HOA didn't. I'm in the market for a different exhaust and I've been looking at the Jardine Carbon RT5. From looking at numerous Youtube videos the Jardine doesn't seem as loud as the D & D. Can anyone here confirm that or is the loudness equally the same? thanks
the D&D is ungodly loud. the jardine and HMF are still loud, but not nearly as bad as the D&D. search for or go to americansportbike website for their 1125 exhaust shootout. IIRC, included decibel ratings.
Uuhhhh , I would definitely recommend you listen to the Keda line. No offence to these bikes but seriously no comparison. They do seem a little bit quieter though. I have heard the D&D and it was so loud it seemed like straight pipes on a drag car.
thank you for all your feedback. That Keda design sounds nice. I know what you mean about the D & D. Folks use to say it sounded like a full blown drag car in the parking lot.
+1 to the keda... just put my new RT-3 on a couple weeks ago with the matching Erik Buell Racing ecm.. can't say enough good things about it.. great quality, fit, finish, and sounds awesome!
Barker is another great option. I have never felt as much gain in performance from a pipe as I felt from my Barker after the Erik Buell Racing chip was installed. The pipe looks awesome in black, is lite as a feather(well not quite that lite-LOL)and the sound is to die for.
I too have been searching for the right slip on. The only one I can personally comment on is the Barker. I rode with Badlionsfan and he is running the Barker with the mid-level quiet core. We road together and next to my stock exhaust his was just slightly louder but with a much nicer sound quality, particularly at idle. I would like to hear that exhaust without the quiet core installed. It was no where near obnoxious as is.
I have that carbon Jardine and yes its loud, but not obnoxious. People definitely hear me coming, but it doesn't bother me riding around or riding with others. I realize its not the best from a 'performance' point of view, but I just dont like how the Keda, Barker etc look
Summarized from this and other audio sites: Doubling of the volume (loudness) should be felt by a level difference of 10 dB; acousticians say. Doubling the sound pressure (voltage) corresponds to a measured level change of 6 dB. Doubling of acoustic power (sound intensity) corresponds to a level change of 3 dB.
3 dB = twice the power (Power respectively intensity - mostly calculated) 6 dB = twice the amplitude (Voltage respectively sound pressure - mostly measured) 10 dB = twice the perceived volume or twice as loud (Loudness nearly sensed - psychoacoustics)
Looks like I'm going with the Jardine RT5 with the carbon canister. Anything I should be aware of when taking off the stock exhaust and mounting the new one? Seems easy enough but would like someone's input. Thanks again for all the great information.
Unless you keep a close eye on the packing, the carbon canisters will crack from the heat.
The 1125r is pretty hard on exhaust kit. FMF in particular did a fair bit of testing with several racers here to develop a packing solution that holds up. Turns out to be a Ti wrapper with SS wool and traditional packing material.
So other than Drummer who else makes a stainless outer can? I have had aluminum ones on my Cyclone and ended up with the Buell Racing (Supertrapp) on mine after the aluminum one got all chewed up from being right behind the front tire from road debris. I am looking for a non ignorant muffler but louder then the stock one.
Aluminum isn't a good choice for an exhaust system. It's soft, so regular road debris eats it up over time. And, it gets brittle with heat systems and will fail.
You are better off with a 24ga SS wrap on the can than even a 1/8th Aluminum. And, it will last longer and weigh less.
I think Dean makes his exhausts from 304SS, which is a nice material. FMF has made thin Ti wraps available for the Apex by special request.
looks like I decided to cancel my Jardine RT5 order and I'm now leaning to the Barker especially know you can apply a quiet core insert. Before I proceed, it will fit a 2008 Buell 1125r right?
I'm a big fan of my HPE Race ...I mean if your looking for a nice quit exhaust I would go with modded stock or a Keda...Either way I ride mostly on the track and honestly could care less about how loud I am on the street since I ride with ear plugs "Helps you become more in tune" and have the Harley owner mentality that loud pipes save lives.
