I have a 09 cr that feels like the right fork has a somewhat major "clunk" or knock to it. it doesn't seem to affect the handling or dampening although the left side could just be making up for it. Doing a search I learned that people thought that a noise like this could come from loose steering head, front brakes, or over tightened front axle. I was just wondering if there was any other new input into this issue. Seems weird that it seems to always be the right fork. My bike is at the dealer right now since it is under warranty, and I was also wondering if anyone thought it would be a problem if they rebuilt and only changed the fluid on the one side. I'm use to cars and you always do everything 2 at a time. |

I don't think there has been any break through as to why it clunks, but it is not just buells with clunky forks. If I take all the compression damping out, mine goes away completely. Some days it's a sharp clunk and others is very muffled. I can only feel it in the bars going slow over a rough surface, weird. |

i tightened up my steering neck bearings and that helped isolate one sound, found out noise was coming from the fork for sure. re-torquing my front axle didn't do a thing for me. changing to a thicker oil has apparently helped others. my Race Tech suspension guy listened to it and felt around... said it had to do with the forks internal design. said as long as it didn't affect performance, ride it and just live with it ... so i do. but i will change the oil in it eventually. |

If you have loosened the spring preload like I did, all the way out, it may be the sound of the spring/spring collar compressing/releasing. The clunk sound seemed to go away when I tighten the preload to the OEM recommended setting. |
