If its from an owner a few things I'd make sure is.

1. See if it has any open recalls
2. Make sure maintenence is done depending to the milage it has.
3. Accidents of course

2008 - clutch issue = minor

2009 - clutch issue (minor) stator issue (major)

2008 - Parasitic battery drain from Instrument Cluster, Water pump leaking from weep hole. Pulsating brakes.

The 2008's are coming out of warranty so this stuff will be expensive and parts can take a long time. Make sure of condition before you buy. I would be very hesitant about sight unseen purchase.

I love riding my 1125R....I hate owning it.

Dnlink "I love riding my 1125R....I hate owning it." Any first generation bike will have issues. The problem as HD acknowledged is heat. Steve_a spoke of an 'oil jet' rotor here on badWeb.

When i bought mine during the firesale there weren't many for sale, now on ebay just today there are 10 bikes, thats just on ebay !

Prices ranging from £5995 to £3995 thats still more than i paid.

I would think the more there are for sale the cheaper they are going to get : (

> Pulsating brakes.

This is NOT a 2008 problem. There are several things that can cause it, none of them unique to the 2008.

So are any of these problems fixed on the 2009? because i am not a really experienced with fixing problems like a weeping clutch and such. i am looking to spend 7000CAD shipped and all, for a get on and ride bike. the most mods i would do is a ebr ecm, an exhaust, and nick nacks like controls and other bolt ons.

You need to look for a 2008 model then!

No stator issue on the 2008 year bikes. The clutch weep is all models. The stator issue is 09 and up. The stator was changed in 2009, that's why they have the harness update to help the charging issue but eventually the stator will fail. They say the 2008's have the instrument cluster drain which kills the battery.

which is easier to fix? the 2008's problems or the 2009's? By easy i mean inexpensive but without compromising quality and reliability.

And is it true you cant put an ecm on the 08?

I have a Barker's exhaust and Erik Buell Racing ECM on the bike. My bike is a 2008 1125R! The clutch weep was done by previous owner under warranty. No other problem so far.

The clutch weep is something that usually gives you a fair bit of notice before it disables your bike due to low fluid, and you can always add fluid to get it back up and running. So that's pretty minor.

The cluster drain can leave your bike dead, but it usually takes overnight to drain your battery. All you have to do is jump start the bike and/or charge the battery to get back on the road, so it's not a huge problem either.

Both of those are the main '08 issues. The '09 issue with the stator can leave you completely dead in the water with no way to get going. (You could charge the battery up fully and then try to ride home before it got drained, but that's not a quick or reliable fix.)

So in my opinion the '08's issues are far less threatening than the '09's. I've got an '08 and after reading about all of the '09 stator issues, I'm even more glad that I've got an '08.

Get an 09, put 08 stator in, enjoy it and the nicer color combos. : )
