I am green to the world of biking, the FNG. I bought the 1125R because I got a great deal. Never on a bike before. I'M ADDICTED! I got her in February and have since put almost 3000 miles on her. I removed the inner air box cover, have ordered a K&N air filter and in the next week or two I'm hoping to get the Erik Buell Racing ECM. With what I've done and are doing, which exhaust would be best for me? I'd like to have a deep rich rumble, not a high pitched scream. I've also removed the rear license plate bracket (cut it off is more like it) keeping the original plastic to fill the void. I didn't cut it very clean but I have an idea, will post results later. I mounted the turn signals at a downward angle to go with curves of the bike. I plan to take off the "bug eyed" front turn signals and customize some LED's on the front end. Bar end mirrors too. I'm also looking to get rid of the Blue wheels and frame, all black. PAINT OR POWDER COAT? Any advice and/or opinions please voice them! Thanks guys!
Which muffler is right for you? It's an exhausting search.
:-)
Youtube has some good videos, but everyone here will probably have their favorite pipe to list. Plenty of discussion over which pipe to get, searching here will net you a lot of reading and videos.
Here's probably my favorite for sound though.
I personally like the black/blue scheme, so I don't have any input on what to change it to. If I absolutely had to change it, I'd go brushed aluminum.
Dont care for the angle on the dangle for the turn signals. Almost all the exhaust are good, depends on budget but none will be generally high pitched( just no d&d). I had my wheels powder coated, here locally(jax,fl) its 160 to have both powder coated in any color you want. Powdercoating is also much more durable than paint so less chance of scratches or chips.
My understanding is that the inner airbox creates a vacuum and gives you more power. I figure since the Erik Buell racing team uses a stock filter I would stick with that. Then again what do I know? I'm still on and XB..
Many thanks all!! Budget isn't unlimited but I can afford to spoil myself this summer. Nothing financed any more and bills at a minimum. ECM first, all else on stand by. I'll put the inner box back on. Alleviates the riding in the rain issue. Powder coating it is. Should I remove the wheels myself or have the shop do it? I am mechanically sound. Making a rig to suspend the bike wouldn't be an issue either. I just don't want to risk scratching or damaging anything. 1-10 level of difficulty(10 being worse case)????
If it were me I would wait to get the ECM until I had chosen an exhaust. Although you can get it reflashed for your exhaust at a later date for a fee, the cheaper and lowest hassle solution is to buy it matched to your final setup. Then again there is something to be said for running the race ECM for the stock exhaust too.
I am a little surprised Dean didn't point you in the direction of the exhaust shootout American Sport Bike did last year. It doesn't cover all of the available options such as the HPE, HMF, Free Spirits, Remus, Termignoni or any of the full systems, but it is full of great information. Take your time searching here or on some of the other Buell forums. If you have a question it has almost certainly been asked before, and so many people have such great ideas for inspiration.
I think I had more fun researching and choosing my exhaust than I have with it actually on the bike.
For the front turn signals, you could wire the running lights to the turn signal wires and put in amber bulbs. I crimped in bullet connectors so the whole thing is reversible if I decide to go back to the stock mirrors. The only downside is the turn signals are not very visible from the side, but it looks far more clean as if that was how it was originally designed.
Welcome to the wonderful world of motorcycles Civilagain. But you need to know that even if you gold plate your whole machine it'll look like crap until you get rid of those big monster pussy strips. Spend your energy on learning riding first.
"I personally recommend you keep the bike stock, save the money for tires and gas. Just keep riding and enjoy!" Says the guy that made a thread yesterday about all of the electronics on his bike.
Sanford NC - I went to school there, the telecom school
Freight dog, thanks. I'm gonna buy the LED bulbs to replace the markers, too dim.
Duphuck, I hear ya. I'm looking more for a murdered out look, not a big fan of the Bling. As for the beef curtains, I'm ok with them for now. Not a fan of scars or scratches. I know great stories go along with them but I'm more of a tattoo and tell your own story type. I still have my permit! Soon bro!
