Just finished up the Brembo rear brake install, though I'd post a parts list and a short writeup of the parts involved so you can get everything you need to finish the job without guesswork. Special thanks to Dirty_john for the help with part numbers. I haven't ridden the bike yet but that Goldline caliper sure looks good in the swingarm. Brembo part numbers are: Rear master cylinder: 10.47660 Pushrod w/clevis for linkage: 70.6002 Banjo switch for brake light: D20-01011-52 Banjo bolt for caliper end: 06.2228.76 Goldline 32mm caliper: 20.5161.43 Replacement pads: 107.2686.25 Other parts needed are: 4" of 1/4 inch brake reservoir hose 2 1/4" clamps 4 6mm flat washers 6mm Helicoil set The master cylinder isn't a direct drop in fit but it's close. I used a 6mm helicoil set and put threaded inserts into the master cylinder holes to match the original master cylinder. No drilling required, just run the tap from the helicoil set through the holes and put the helicoils in. Use the factory master cylinder bolts to mount the cylinder to the heel guard with 2 6mm flat washers between the master and the heel guard to achieve the correct offset. You'll have to cut the pigtail off the original brake switch and attach it to the new Banjo switch. I used solder and heat shrink, and approximated the length of the original assembly. The original reservoir hose is too short, and the barb on the master cylinder is bigger than the Brembo cylinder. The new master has a smaller barb the same size as the tubing coming from the reservoir, so I procured a piece hose from the local motorcycle shop. The caliper drops right in place and on my bike landed perfectly centered on the disk without shimming. This particular caliper when mounted on the 1125R ends up with the brake hose and bleeder on the bottom. This sucks but is overcome by putting a wedge in the caliper and bleeding the brake before mounting the caliper. Just mock it up on the bike to get the angle of the hose right, cinch the hose down, and pull it back off the swingarm. The brake hose isn't ideal but it's workable and doesn't kink the hose. The pads are already in the caliper, I ordered a spare set as well. I'll see how it feels tomorrow, my original brake worked fine but when the master started sticking I figured I'd upgrade the whole thing. The best thing is I didn't have to wait two months for the dealer to fix it under warranty during good riding weather. |

Thanks, I just rec'd the Brembo master cylinder I ordered thinking it would just "drop in", puzzled I thought I purchased the wrong item. My stock MC is seized up completely (in the garage thankfully) and is useless! Thanks for the list and info. For now the CR will be down till I get the balance of the parts ordered. How much coin are we talking about for the retro-fit? I hope it all gets here b4 my annual trip to West Virgina, South Carolina from June 10 - 19th!! My Barkers exhaust is coming today for the CR, can't wait. I'm glad I have the 08' R as "back-up" ride, (w/ a Barkers exhaust)just gotta put new pads on it! |

I'll try to take some pics of it all installed this afternoon. The whole upgrade was around $225, but to just do the master cylinder would be around $125. I bought all the Brembo parts from YoYoDyne, they shipped FedEx and everything arrived quickly. |

so what's the benefit of dropping 225 to replace the rear brake system? is it to get more 'feel' in the pedal or because some have experinced the rear brake caliper lock-up and get it replaced under warranty? |

Buying the master from Brembo seemed like a nice upgrade, and easy to get. I'll admit that I replaced the caliper just for the cool factor. Honestly the brake feels just like it did before, go figure. |

For me,had to replace the MC due to it seizing up. HD parts supply said they had no idea how long it would take, anywhere from 3 - 6 weeks best guess. So do I want to wait for HD or just a little work on Brembo parts that are stock with most suppliers. Anyhow, I so rarely use the rear break, but if you need some extra stopping power and or not worry about the sucker seizing up and prematurely wear the pads...not so much! peace of mind. |

Mechanicsn - Since I'm just upgrading the MC for now, maybe this will be self evident when the balance of the parts are in, but is the Brembo brake light switch going to be compatible with the stock caliper brake line connection? |

The Brembo switch is compatible with the stock brake line, shouldn't be any problem there. |
