I have an 08 1125r, it has a rebuilt title, I have put 2500 miles on it since I got it. It has run great until a few weeks ago. For one, it does not like to be low on gas, even before the light comes on it will buck and surge like it is out of gas, and then today, with plenty of gas, under hard acceleration, it started to do the same thing, but the engine light came on, and the code read out something about fuel pressure. Do I have to buy a whole new fuel pump, or are there some things I could check out first? Thanks

check your error codes etc on your i-cluster first and go from that.

the instrument cluster has a means of checking and displaying error codes

with the key off, hold down toggle and mode then turn key on, hey presto DIAG MODE, then just toggle through the options, codes etc

could be some bad gas?
u could drain the tank, there is gold drain bolt on the rear left side of the frame/tank, near the sprocket, you will have to remove the sprocket cover, its easy, two bolts.

but i would check the codes first before i drained the tank.

I already check the codes via the instrument cluster, that is how I came up with the fuel pressure code. I poured a bottle of sea foam fuel treatment into a fresh tank of gas, and it seemed to run better last night, took it out for a 50 or so mile ride. When I took it out today, it ran great, I came home, and then left again, and the engine light came back on, with the same fuel pressure system error. When I shut the bike off and then restart, the code goes away for a while, then comes back...

Has anyone else had to deal with this?

What should I check next?

1)visually inspect your harnesses for proper routing or chafing, tug/pull
2)inspect connections at fuel pump and ecm
3)check your chassis grounds there are only 3
4)check your fuel pressure

Tepid -
E-Manual says to check fuel rail pressure static and running.
Go into diag mode and check -
Static(key on engine NOT running) should show ~517kPa
Running should be 380-415kPa

Anything less and it's most likely either a bad sensor, pump or an obstruction.
Also possible causes are wiring, injectors or ECM
