Remember the fancy billet oil cooler that goes between the crankcase and oil filter on the tubers that American Sport Bike sells? It's a neat idea that works:

On the 1125, I've walked around the engine after coming back from a ride a few times while pointing a laser thermostat at different places on the engine. Well, not surprising, the stator cover is as hot as other hot places on the engine. And it retains that heat for quite some time.

Being that the stator is bolted to the left side cover and heat is produced in the coils, that heat transfers not only internally to engine oil but also through the coils' iron cores to the stator mounting surface and the 3 screws to the outer cover.

So I was thinking (look out!) that maybe the stator would benefit from a form fitting external heat sink/finned radiator device similar in principle to the oil cooler above that could be clamped to the outside of the stator cover where the heat sink/rad would whisk away such heat to the cooler air, providing the device is effective in conducting heat. Thermal paste like that used on the VR and its mount could be used between the heat sink/rad and the stator cover to aid heat transfer.

I'm just wondering how effective, if at all, such a device would be to transfer heat away from the stator and prolong its life. Waddya think?

The cooling fins need to contact the source of the heat. Just like the heat sinks on an aircooled cylinder directly contact the cylinder head so the heat can transfer to the heat sinks and dissipate.

I'd say if one wants to try cooling things, an "external" oil injector or two squrting oil on the stator may do a good job.

If you look in that side of the engine case, there are plastic shields keeping oil splash "out" of that area.
The only oil that gets to the stator is the oil leaving the roller bearing from a shaft right there.

I thought of this a while back. Hell...the exact same setup is on the right side of the crank case...engine oil to the trans.
A little black tube...right behind the dip stick.

Why not flood the stator with a fine mist of somewhat cool oil using the same method..?
Just meter it down to a mist so you don't starve the rest of the engine of oil.
