All too often I focus on negatives in life and pass right on by the positives without really enjoying them. This time last year I was dealing with the typical 1125r "hate" but after a year with the machine Its grown on me so much. Getting into it and checking the valves and then just this weekend replacing brake pads and removing the swingarm to strip it of its blue paint. I love the way it rides and I love how simple it is to work on. I would consider myself a newb when it comes to motorcycle repair but this bike makes me feel almost pro. So let this be some encouragement for those of you dealing with issues now, when you get them sorted you'll be in love. Enjoy sorting the issues out. Unless you dont know the difference between nut and a bolt just dive in and get your fingernails greasy....It seems intimidating at first but its a breeze and its fun. Im almost having more fun taking it apart and putting it back together than I am riding it.

how was the valve adjustment ? I have never done one before, but will be waiting until winter before i do it. Did you need to change any shims, and what was your mileage.

Im at 10500 miles and will be nearer 14000 when i do the check.

That sounds great, I'm honestly a little intimidated by my 1125CR, I'm not very mechanically inclined but I do like attempting to fix a problem by myself. I wish someone made a short video on how to rotate the engine and check the valves, that way I can have some sort of guideline on how to do it. But anyways, good on you.

So - have you reached Zen yet and become one with your machine?
wouldn't waste time reading Zen and the Art of MC Maint by Pirsig - it' more a book trying to define quality/values ( although around page 4 he does define what it's like to ride a bike that describes it for non -riders) - rather read "Riding Man" by Gardner - for those times when you can't twist wrenches or throttle grips...and if you must pursue Zen - try "Zen and the Art of Archery"...practice practice practice...P.S. women do not like grease under finger nails - if you find one that does - she's a keeper.
good luck

I was around 14000 when I did my valve check, I did not need to adjust anything I was right in spec. Being slightly mechanically inclined helps a lot but just being motivated to solve something on your own works too. The step by step directions in the service manual dont leave anything in question. A video is really a great Idea, My buddy does professional video stuff. Maybe he and I can put a real quality video together, although I am sure there would be someone more qualified to actually be doing the wrenching.

These bikes are pretty nice for working on. I had to drop the motor in the race bike recently as I was pleasantly surprised with the relatively simple task it was.

Re-assembly, I'm sure, will be more complicated, but I'm looking forward to it. It's always nice to know more about the bikes you are riding.

I have to say I'm not looking forward to rotating my engine but I'm confident I can do it. I have the tools already so there is no excuse.

My bigger concern is finding the right shims as I HATE my local H-D/Buell dealer. Is there a mail order place I can order up Shims for the 1125R?

I really started to love my Cr when i fixed it up after my brother wrecked in on Palomar. While fixing it i realized the amazing engineering that went into this bike. My bro wrecked at 100 mph, the bike rolled three times and landed upside down in rocks, i fixed the bike for $3k in parts and my brother was fine.
