Please do not tell me to sell my bike, stop freaking out or, whatever. I have plenty of reason for concern thanks I am going on a road trip in a few weeks and I installed a toggle switch to shut off my lights in case, god forbid, I see a voltage drop. It is a pain in the ass to unplug them. ask me how I know. Well this got me to thinking and i am curious for peoples opinion on the best way to cruise. Does the stator run cooler/better with more stuff turned on, like the high beams? or is it "happier" with less of a current draw? I also wonder has anyone racked up over 7000miles WITHOUT replacing charging system components?... anyone? how about 5000miles? anyone have personal experience with a roadside assistance program they might recommend? I wonder if I can just call the closest dealer in a worst case scenario and hope they can help me I have a new battery, voltage regulator and stator with the harness patch. Should be no problem and I am just trying to be prepared sorry for the long post todd |

I asked Anonymous this a while back, it makes no difference to the stator, it will run just as hot.
quote: is it "happier" with less of a current draw?
Less draw will help you get further in the event it is losing output.
quote:I also wonder has anyone racked up over 7000miles WITHOUT replacing charging system components?...
I have, and many others.

AMA Defender with roadside. $50 a year, helps protect your rights to ride, and gets you 3 free tows, up to 35 miles but you may have to foot the bill for additonal mileage if you go over that. I used it when my CR lost its stator, and again when my Blast ate wheel bearings. Well worth it I know you don't want me to say it, but stop freaking out, stop reading horror stories, just ride. I rode 110 miles in the last 24 hours, it was fantastic, it has been about 40° and I don't need the heated gear anymore, and I enjoyed every second of it. Ride, don't worry. Be happy. |

AMA offers free towing if you become a member. My buddy had to use the tow service once, and he had no complaints. I've got about 22k miles on my 1125R with no stator issues. Of course, I have an 08. |

I have an 08 1125R, approaching 5K miles. I think at least part of the stator is gone as it runs fine on low beams only, but kills the battery in 30 minutes with high beams on. Symptoms are the throttle position sensor (TPS) gets wacky.... Coming off of idle, it's nothing, nothing, nothing...nothing... and then suddenly 1/2 throttle. Quite scary if you're not expecting it. Gonna take it in for service.... (stay tuned!) |

Keep the rpms up, more rpms=more oil flowing past the stator=happy stator The oil pump is controlled with the rpms, higher rpms= more oil pressure. The only time my bike has a voltage drop is if its hot and i sit and idle. (Message edited by dktechguy112 on April 06, 2011) |

I have 6600 miles or so, live in an urban area, had the update harness put on at 500 miles, and only service to date has been oil changes. at idle the volts drop to 12s...but at speed near 14v. From what i understand that is exactly what the updated harness is suppose to do.

Mine went just over 14,000 miles before one segment died. With two segments still working fine, it got me home from work (another 4! miles) with no problems. Might have gone a longer if I wanted to test fate..! Mike P.s. - original wiring..."no" harness update. (Message edited by 1_mike on April 06, 2011) |

Just for clarification, if you join/are a member of AMA and opt for automatic renewal, roadside assistance is free. The key is automatic renewal. A no-brainer in my opinion. The AMA and MRF are the two biggest organizations looking out for motorcyclist's rights. |

Reducati- What bars are on your bike? Doesn't look like the stock clubs or the high bar? Any better pics? |

Crazyhawk: That's changed... now any regular, paid member gets the free Roadside Assistance, Automatic renewal or not. Life Members still have to pay for it, but the price is quite reasonable. |

The more items you have turned on (high beams, heated grips, heated jacket etc, etc) the happier the VR will be.. it makes no difference to the stator but the VR won't be dumping so much of the excess power so will be cooler... |

thanks for all the feedback. I was an AMA member when racing MX/enduros but I let it expire. Ill check out the AMA again.... now that I am old and worried I might need a tow. LOL man how things change nice to hear from a few people without charging system issues. |

This is GREAT NEWS! Is this just a special deal by your dealer or could this reflect a change in Harley-Davidson's policy regarding ongoing problems with '09 1125 charging systems? |

I'm thinking about disconnecting 1 of my fans. Do I really need both running? I don't sit in traffic, but both those muther F'n fans are going to run regardless, in the summer. |

Don't jump to conclusions. I've been logging overnight battery voltages for my 1125R with new stator and VR & upgrade harness as compared to my '96 S1 Lightning for 5 days. Here's what I've found: 1125 | S1 | 12.7 | 12.8 | 12.7 | 12.8 | 12.7 | 12.8 | 12.7 | 12.8 | 12.7 | 12.8 | Note: each bike was not ridden for the duration of this informal test and the measurements were taken on the next morning with an external multimeter. I'm not drawing any conclusions for this data but am presenting it to the forum as my experience. YMMV. I'd like to see others add to this overnight voltage data with their experiences regarding previous day rides & mileages with pertinent notes regarding those rides, the idea being that this 1125 upgrade harness, stator & VR may be more or less typical as compared to other models and, as such, not a great cause of concern. |

I have 10,000 miles on stock stator. I have the harness but have unplugged it because I've been riding in a lot of stop and go traffic. Will die with E.B.R ecm. No issues so far. |

I had no stator issues until I put the E.B.R ecm in, even then it ran for about 100 miles until stator went out. The dealer had to go through 3 stators and have E.B tech team come out to diagnose and repair. Does the E.B.R race ecm cause this issue? My 09 1125r has 1600 miles on it with pipes and Erik Buell Racing ecm. The bike has had no problems now with the new stator , it has been about 200 miles since the repair. This bike is a beast! Makes it easy to forget about these petty issues! A Very Angry Machine! |

No, you are more likely to get a nail in a tire due to the ECM. |

Well, it just happened to me. I installed a new rear tire yesterday and today I went for a short ride to scuff it in a little. Ten miles from home the engine and battery lights come on and my voltage dropped from the normal 14v to 11.7. By the time I got home it was 11.2. I was surprised it was still running. I've never had the harness installed because I wanted to wait until right before my warranty was up in the hopes that the stator would fail and I could get a new one. Looks like I had a good idea. While I have it in for the stator they can fix the clutch leak to. |
