I mounted a camera on my lower fairing to catch some of the scenery on a trip coming up. It looks like it is high enough to clear the ground when I lean into a turn, but how can I be sure? Is it as simple as taking a straight edge to the front and rear tire to see the angle? If the straight edge hits something else first, I'm good, right?

Lean the bike over above some grass, or something soft. Maybe have someone help, to control it.

Don't forget that while riding, your suspension compresses bringing the bike closer to the ground.

I've hung a camera right under the nose of the bike with good luck.

Set your front and rear tires in line with each other. Stick a straight edge to the edge of the tire contact patch and measure out the same distance(3-4") from each tire. Draw a straight line on the ground between these two points. Run a straight edge from this line to the outside edge of the camera perpendicular to the edge line at the camera. Use an angle finder or measure the rise and the run to calculate the angle between the straight edge and the ground. Do the same thing and check for the angle of other hard parts on the critical edge of the lean angle such as the foot pegs. As long as the camera angle is greater then or equal to the other parts, you have not decreased your available lean angle.

Or just jam a relatively flat piece of plywood against the wheels and lift up until you hit something.

REMEMBER what 99BuellX1 said.

I didn't take that into account and ended up grinding down the knob on my GoPro when it was suction cup mounted to the right side fairing. I was amazed that it stayed on.
