I was reading through some of the threads on extended warranties, and one person said that the price will jump up on april 1?
What is a good price on an extended warranty 3 or 5 years?
09 CR
3k miles
Do I have to buy it from the dealer where i bought the bike?

The prices are going up on the first, thats a fact jack! Any dealer can sell you one. One interesting thing though is that the prices for the Buells might be going down. They used to be lumped with the big twins for pricing and now they are with the sportsters so they might actually end up being less. Maybe someone in a dealer can get you the details tomorrow. I would but I am not working tomorrow.

oh, and BTW, something else new is that warranty will now be able to be sold even after the factory warranty expires. It will cost a little more and the bike will need to pass an inspection and there is a limitation on how soon you can begin using the new warranty but anyone who is out of warranty could get one if they wanted. I think it needs to have 400 miles put on it after the mileage noted on the contract before any claims can be made.

I can confirm that prices will go up today (now April 1st here). I was able to get my extended warranties on March 31st before the price went up.

Thanks to everyone for the heads up!

As a reference point, I paid $1,254 for the 5-year extension (or as H-D calls it, a 7-year warranty) ... Jumped in before prices reset. First extended warranty contract that I've ever bought, 50+ vehicles later.

I probably paid full retail for the extended warranty, but didn't have a choice of where to shop on short notice. That said, I paid 1699 for the 7 year (actually 5 extended) but I also got the $200 upgrade for wheels and tires......

Probably more than I should have paid, but if you look at it over 5 years, it's ~ $400/yr for coverage of major components.

One thing I did find out, that the new rules from HD about extended warranty, is that even if you OUT of warranty, you should be able to get an extended now but you pay a penalty to do this. I believe they are also able to extended the warranty beyond 7 years now.....see someone else who has more info (like your HD dealer or someone else on the board). I only recalled this from memory after a discussion a couple weeks ago.

Like I already said in this post, HD dealers can now sell ESP on a bike that is out of warranty. There is an inspection involved and you will probably have to pay for that inspection to be performed. If the bike passes, you can buy warranty. If the bike does not pass, you can correct the problems and then buy warranty.

ESP has always had the ability to extend beyond 7 years. 3 months before your warranty expires you can go to your dealer and purchase up to another 5 years of warranty as long as your bike has under 75,000 miles on it. The pricing on that is the same pricing they go by for used bikes
