hello, I might be planning to buy an used barker slip/on. It has a quiet core and a spark arrestor. the question is which one is which one? one got lots of holes on the tube, the other doesn't, but it got somekind of metallic filter. I have never seen the one with holes on barker's site, it's confusing me. And also, I've heard there are more than one type of quiet core, is that right? and which one should be the most effective? Thanks! |

Tsnake - Well....make up your own mind..! Put the system on, run it with the quiet core, then run it without. See which YOU like best..! Remember, for the engine to run it's best, you'll need to retune the ECM from what you have now to the Barker exhaust. Erik Buell Racing is probably the best place to get an ECM for that exhaust. I even had to retune mine from running an HMF to the Barker. Mike |

The quiet core with the screen on the end is a 1" quiet core. The 1 1/2" and 1 5/8" don't have the screen (spark arrestor). |

I have not seen a perforated quiet core however that doesn't mean they don't make them. Simply measure the tube diameter to determine core size. The screen is a spark arrestor. The 1" quiet cores have the screen as these are used in other applications beside the Buell exhaust where the screen is required. (Message edited by puzzled on March 28, 2011) |

I have some questions on the Barker exhaust as well.. I just bought my 1125CR and really want to open it up with a Barker and an Erik Buell Racing chip. But there is one side note, the noise. I really love it, but the authorities in Holland and especially Germany (where I really love to ride) don't, so I'm thinking of riding it with the 1" QC insert, especially for long trips through Germany. I think I'll ride it in Holland without the QC though. My main question is, what does a Barker do in terms of noise with the QC fitted? On the website they claim just 94db (versus 103db without), which could be plausible, but under what conditions? Also I read the American Sport Bike exhaust shootout in which they claim the Barker makes approx 107db, under static 5000rpm or so (without QC of course). Slightly more noise than stock is fine, but I really don't want to look behind my back all the time for the (especially German) police. My second question is what specification Erik Buell Racing chip should I run? In my opinion it is fine to let the Erik Buell Racing chip tune to a Barker without QC. Because the QC only makes the bike run a bit richer, which is not a real problem. The other way round, an Erik Buell Racing chip tuned for a QC will make the bike run lean when the QC is not fitted, in my opinion this is worse than running a bit rich. Am I correct on this? Are there any experiences? |
