Hi Ya's.
New to the group have a 2009 1125r which has had the wiring upgrade. Does that completely fix the stator problem?
Cheers, John

If it hasn't already happened your 09 will most likely be needing a stator. My bike had 39 miles and the wiring upgrade was already done. at 2,200 miles I got a stator and at 9000 miles now it seems acceptable.

The jury is out on the factory stator replacements. Some have done Custom Rewinds and mosfet regulators. search on google at top of screen for stator and get yourself a comfortable chair. lots of reading...

Manor,

It's a mixed bag. I have 6500 mi on my 09 without the harness "upgrade" and no issues. I took the bike in for a warranty item the other day, and the dealer put the harness on.

No issues at all.

JD,
I forget, are you running an Erik Buell Racing ECM or stock?

Race ECM now, but most of those miles were accumulated with a stock ECM.

Thanks for the info JD. I have been mulling over the idea of creating a "stator failure" poll and asking for input on the various forums. I am/have been curious as to the specific parameters of stator failures such as Erik Buell Racing/OEM ECM, Harness upgrade, mileage at failure, etc...

Your thoughts?

Crazyhawk99 - Sounds like a good idea.

Ride the bike hard, keep the revs up;

No problem.

So far I have to go with the keep the revs up. My CR has no harness mod, half the miles on stock ECM half on race, 5000+ miles and spends just about all it's time over 4000 rpm. Never ride it in urban areas. (lucky enough to live in the boonies) No problem so far.

Crazyhawk, a similar survey was done last year on here, data was all over the place.

Froggy - Time is a valuable element in analysis. Things may have changed.

everyone has put on more miles...
garage queens sold and now being ridden..

I'll chime in and say I have a stock 09CR with the harness upgrade done at 1200 miles. Put a thousand miles or so on it so far, rode in awful summer heat in stop and go traffic for hours, coolant temp has been up to 212/213 at times, did daily commuting, etc. and no problems whatsoever, no voltage drops, etc. (still doesn't mean i'm not scared it WILL fail though). I would like to know who has had problems and who hasn't, because it seems like EVERYONE has had a stator failure, and it is quite disturbing...

Just got off the phone with dealer my second stator went out only after 8 months. The upgrade has been in place the entire time. They had to use a puller to remove the cover since the stator was welded to the housing. Here we go again.

Crmike, I can assure you that it is not every bike. I know several local guys that have had trouble free bikes.

Don't tempt Mr. Murphy - His law has bitten me a time or two. I recall making a post once saying my '09R with 3K'ish miles has been completely fine; not even a hint of stator trouble.

Moments after making that post, I got on it to ride the 4 miles home. That was its last outing before going to a dealer for a new stator. BTW, I love this bike ... Murphy's Law seems to love me just as much!
