"Do you miss the XB? Have you ever considered going to a 12R? I've heard people talk a lot about the 1125r seat....is it as comfortable as the XB seat"? I actually still have my XB9R. I'll be damned if I have to give it away. For what I see them selling for I'll keep it, even considering making a track bike out of it. I just don't ride it as often now that I'm obsessed with my 1125R. Never rode a 12R but sure I'd have been happy with that too. For what you can buy a 12R for it's an excellent choice. I put a thicker optional Buell seat on my XB as it was a bit uncomfortable stock on long trips and having been used to a inline four YZF600R. I found the stock seat on the 1125R fine and log hundreds of miles a day with no complaints. The 1125R is smoother (less vibration) than the XB. |

No kidding, you like the stock 1125 seat better than the XB's? That's really good to know. The XB seat wasn't so great after 2 hours, but I dealt with it. I was expecting the same with this. It's snowing. Again. It's going to be a late Spring. |

do the world a favor and dont get a D&D, i would rather ride next to a Harley with no pipes on it at all than one with a D&D |

This is probably a question you should have asked BEFORE you bought the 1125. Just be very smooth with the throttle. And, like others have said, it won't sound like a air-cooled Harley motor. |

Oh, I've been watching the 1125 for a couple of years now, and been reading all the reviews. There are no deal breakers that I've read as of yet, but definitely things that are good to know. The sound is the only surprise so far, but I'll figure something out I'm sure. |

The sound is the only surprise so far, but I'll figure something out I'm sure. I'm sure you'll find something that makes you happy. Dean's exhausts are fantastic, you could do a whole lot worse. I went for a Barker ('cause they are cheap and Tim's a good guy) and think it's fabulous. One thing I would definately NOT recommend is to lower the idle speed too low in an attempt to replicate the HD sound. The motor won't like that and the charging system definately won't like it. You're going to love riding the 1125, I always get to my destination with a huge grin on my face! W.R.T the seat, they're pretty much the same as the Firebolt seats (they are interchangeable) so they're not "ideal" for male riders (they're not ideally suited to the male anatomy). I bought a second hand Firebolt seat off ebay and had it modified with memory foam and less of a "saddle like" feel... That's a lot better for long runs. |

Hi - I started on a XB12S Lightning (used) that had a D&D pipe and a Buell race ECM. I am 6' 1" and 130 lbs. In first gear, roll-on wheelies are no problem, but I never go higher than a 6" or so. It will not ever lift the wheel in 2nd gear for me in a roll-on (I never pop the clutch). The 1125R, for my longer arms, is only slightly more race-posture than the XB12S. Al at American Sport Bike sells cool 1" bar risers that make it an even better match to the Lightning posture - great for longer weekend rides, but not so much that track days are uncomfortable. I have not played too much with the suspension, just put it to manual specs. The XB12S NEEDS a steering damper (at least mine does). I have the LSL damper, dialed to max. There is not much resistance at low speeds and it provides a LOT of confidence against headshake at higher speeds (zero problems since installation). The 1125R has never had the slightest tendency to headshake under any circumstances, so I've basically forgotten about adding a damper to it. For my weight, I've never once had the front wheel of the 1125R off the ground in a power roll-on. In 1st gear, you hit readline far too fast to do anything. In 2nd gear there is just not enough torque to lift the front wheel (stock '08 ECM). Note the 1125R also has a longer wheelbase and is lower. The XB12S actually has more torque in first gear than the 1125R - I'd guess at least 15%. The RPMs are the big difference. The XB12S likes to run 3-6K RPM (a 2:1 ratio). The 1125R hates anything under 4K RPM, and I typically keep it in the 4-8K RPM range (a 2:1 ratio). The difference is that you don't have to shift at 8K, you can go to 10K RPM before shifting. The engine really comes alive at 8-10K, so be cautious (and only on deserted back roads!). The HP difference really shows in that you're in 2nd gear on the 1125R instead of 4th on the XB12S, so the gearing difference gives you much greater torque/acceleration at the rear wheel (due to the lower gear). You will need to re-tune your ears to the higher RPM of the 1125R for shifting purposes. You will also notice that the RPM/velocity points (25,35,45,55,65 mph) move from 3K RPM on the XB12S to 4K RPM on the 1125R. I don't use the XB12S as much anymore, but when you do you will find yourself hitting the rev limiter a lot since your ears got used to using 4-8K rpm as your new "normal" zone. The difference in clutch feel, throttle response, ergos, steering, etc are also all different enough that you will have to re-tune yourself each time you switch (at least I have to). I have the stock exhaust on the 1125R, and I like that it is not super loud like the D&D on the XB (previous owner installed that - sounds great but I worry about pissing people off). I've not seen non-stock exhausts on the 1125R. As for seats, the XB12S and 1125R seats are both fine for me for 300 mile days, no problem. Very similar. In summary, I liken the XB12S to a muscle car/hot rod type auto like the Mustang or Corvette: lots of power & fun but not really a race bike. The 1125R feels like a jet fighter by comparison (sleeker & more stable to ride), and of course is great at a track. Have fun and let us know how it goes! I had an XB12R when I bought the 1125R, swapped the seat from the Firebolt to the 1125R as it suited me better. In my opinioN the 1125R seat was too hard |

Still waiting to add my own experience to this. It snowed here the other day, and it's supposed to snow this week, so it's going to be a few days. Best case is I get the bike out before the end of the month. I'm usually stuck with an April-October riding season, but I've squeezed out a November or two in the past. In the meantime, keep the comments coming! |

I popped my cherry today, and daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that thing is smooth. Relative to the XB, it does not shake at all; she just sits and purrs. I see what people mean about the throttle being jerky. I only did about 25 miles, but I could see that getting annoying in traffic. Noisy little bugger, too. I never had it past 3rd gear, which is another way of saying I didn't crack 100mph. This range of gearing is going to take some adjustment. I pretty much just ran it at the 4-5k range out of habit. Brought it up to the 10 mark just to see, but it takes some dedication. I can't wait for it to be above 45. |

I thought it was kinda funky when I made the trade from SV650S to the 1125R. It felt so "stiff" for lack of a better word. But once it got broken in and things loosened up and I got used to the more civilized suspension and where it likes to be shifted... It's a good thing. Lol. |

Leechykyle -- I was just going to mention that it's stiff. That'll go away? I hope so. Although the engine is very smooth, the bumps are a bit rough right now. When it gets warmer, I'm going to set the suspension to what the manual suggests for my height. Yesterday I noticed the handle bar vibration, and I see why people get the plugs for the ends. I don't think I could go over an hour with that hitting my palms constantly, they'd start to itch. So far, it's handling short trips just fine. And other than that stupid "Cold" message on the display, it seems to be okay with that as well. Thanks guys. |
