Aren't those connectors weatherproof already? Yes they are. Thats why Im not concerned. The blue silicone pieces in this picture were very hard to push in the holes. "VERY TIGHT FIT"
I didn't have to silicone like this. Both work fine. Heck he saved a lot of cash doing this.

had to "cut it close" in order to provide enough wire length to mount in "original position" and to clear seat...

I did the same thing . I only cut the red and black wires because two of my three yellow wires were fried. That is one sad regulator when stacked beside the fh012aa . |

I did notice your power wire is very close to rubbing the regulator. Be careful these bikes make lots of vibrations. I'd zip tie it to the side like I did. |

i understand the wires are "water-proof" but you will find VERY few if any connectors on a car or motorcycle that have the connectors pointed up like that. water can still get in there. just takes a long time. with the connectore pointed up, water can "sit" on the connector and over time, the water can seep past the blue silicone of the connector. |

I actually just got my FH0012AA in the mail today. I want to try to mount mine out in the air stream more. Anyone have any opinions on good locations? |

There was an earlier post that mounted the FH12AA in the rear seat space, I followed this advice and cut some slots in the seat undertray behind the battery (thus ahead of the VR) and near the upper rear of the tray to provide a hot air outlet, I eventually intend to use the alternative seat cowl from Trojan. So far the new VR is working ok and doesn't get that warm compared to the OEM part. |

Has anyone considered mounting the VR on the undertray? |

I actually just got my FH0012AA in the mail today. I want to try to mount mine out in the air stream more. Anyone have any opinions on good locations? Everything I have read about the FH0012AA says it produces negligable heat, the stock location would be fine or anywhere with some "space" around it, it really does not seem to require being in the airflow at all. I've spent quite a bit of time reading up on this lately on various forums and the common conclusion is that they generate very little heat (barely warm to the touch) even at idle with no load.. |

Cool. Thanks for the info. I will just mount mine in the stock location. |

More testing On a 30 minute ride back it pegged at 14.6 and leveled off at 14.4- 14.3 . In the city it went as low as 14.0. |

"as low as 14.0", that is great. |

Curve_carver, Are you running the update harness with your regulator? |

After 45 minutes of riding I stop to touch the voltage regulator. To my surprise it wasnt even hot. |

My first post on this subject. Very interested in what will make "the fix" fix the initial factory problem. Seems to me that "upgraded harness" means nothing more than new wiring for this affected area. As mentioned above, the wiring with factory setup is being fried. Also seems to me this is a temp fix too as with a new VR but rated the same as stock, wiring will only hold on for short time. To me anyway, seems fried wiring is definitely related to each owner's mileage. With that, it would appear that a new harness would not be necessary, only new wiring for affected components. I like the new VR idea. Hope it is the "FIX" for all. Other mfr's might pick up on this thread if indeed this is the cure. Good job Curve! Steve |

1125cr I'm not running the harness/ relay setup. I have a feeling that the stator is slightly damaged. I removed my stator cover last fall when the rotor nut was loose. To my surprised 2/3 of the stator windings were dark brown and 1/3 was still grey looking. Same thing with the harness 2 of the 3 wires were burnt. I have a feeling that damage is already done. If I have problems this summer with charging I'll just have it rewound or install an 08 setup. At this point I'm just curious. I might pull the cover off after a few more rides and see what's going on in there. |

CC 2 of my wires on the harness are fried also on my 09 1125R. The relay was so hot you could not touch it. It is at the dealer now being looked at. Do you think it is the VR that caused these wires to burn up? |
