Fresno, that makes sense. Personally, I'd prefer the additional output over hp. Having just done a ride through the Central Valley in foggy 40 degrees, I am seriously considering heated gear for the first time in my life. I guess it would be nice to have the option as to output. |

The 08 stator handles heated gear, GPS, phone charger, and tire pressure monitoring system without issue. I'm just too lazy to add the race computer, radar detector, and heated grips too it, but I don't see why it wouldn't handle it either. The problem with the 09 stator is not the output, but the fact that its physically larger. It obstructs the oil flow too much to allow adequate cooling. |

So Froggy, you are saying regardless of the winding on the stator, we will run into issues due to the sheer size of the stator? Or can we drop output enough to keep it from frying? Obviously, the object it to avoid buying the '08 assembly. Definitely plausible as much as I don't like it. Does anyone have any real life photos of an uncovered stator? It sure would be nice to see the internals to get a better feel of what's going on. |

This leads to the next question--if this IS the case, why in the hell was the '09 stator changed? Was this a money saving issue? Tpoppa mentioned he thought the '09 stator maybe a Harley part. Can a HD part fit on a Rotax motor? |

A 2008 stator would not keep my bike charged in Los Angeles traffic during the summer. It was a nightmare and I was splitting lanes and keeping it revved as much as possible. It left me stranded numerous times. There was absolutely a reason they tried a different stator for 2009. If the 2008 was perfect, it would not have been redesigned. |

So did the Aprilia RSV with the Rotax motor have similar issues? Just curious? |

Yes. As you can see in pictures, the 09 unit is physically larger to allow for more output. The output itself isn't the issue, the cooling is, and hence the harness shuts off a third of the stator to reduce the temperature buildup.

Back when the 08's came out, there was an issue with bikes not staying charged. It ended up being the instrument clusters having a parasitic draw, but the stator had its output increased to help keep the battery charged.

You have something amiss that is causing your issue, possibly a weak battery not holding a charge. If everything was working as intended, you would not of had any issues. |

If HD did find another source it was definitely to save cost. Ear, Most people with 08s have not reported that type of problem. Was there anything else going on with your 1125? |

It would make no sense at all for Buell/HD to have opened up sealed motors upon delivery from Rotax to change to the 09 stators, these must have been fitted at the Rotax factory when the engines were built. |

The 08 stators say 'Made in Croatia.' The 09's don't appear to be have a country of origin. I am no expert on imports, but interesting. Also, once a part has been built it can be shipped anywhere...Milwaukee, Austria, etc. Compare these to the 08 & 09 stator in the earlier post: Stator for a Rotax powered Aprilia Falco. 18 pole, machine wound... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-Aprilia-Falco-SL-1000-V60-Stator-Gv-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1e61e2185aQQitemZ130491226202QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Stator from a Harley big twin. 12 pole hand wound... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/45-Amp-Stator-Alternator-Harley-OEM-29987-02-/130461521750?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e601cd756 Could be a coincidence, but there are similarities.
