When I was at the track this weekend I noticed after I made my runs that the bike almost wouldn't want to turn over. I checked my voltage and it's showing 13 volts at speed, should it be 14? Possible stator failure? |

There is no set voltage value that is correct, it will fluctuate. If you see 12.x volts while doing 70mph, then you have problems. |

My has been doing the same type of starting as of late. Like the battery is dead. Tonight the same deal. Instrument lights went out for a while, then back on. |

Instrument lights going out is a different problem. The stator isn't a problem unless is is dropping below 12 and doesn't go back up. |

If you're showing 13.xx(anything) while running with headlights on, you ARE charging. If you see 12.5 or less, at speed, watch the voltage closely. If you see the voltage dropping while holding a steady speed, pull over and disconnect your headlights. Boogie your ass home fast. Don't worry about what it does at idle, keep the revs above 3k as much as possible. Voltage goes all over the place when the revs are low. Zack |

Adding to Zacks list, don't shut the bike off if you pull over to disconnect the headlight, it may not restart if you do. |

I hear you Zac but regarding disconnecting the headlights, what is the quickest way to do this? I know there's a rubber cover on each side of the headlight assy, but the plug inside those are for the running lights not headlights, no? |

If you keep it running, you can pull the headlight relay and you're good. Can't start tho, if the relay's out, it's part of the starter circuit. At least, that's how my 08 is. I think I'd opt for un-plugging at the bulbs, R or CR. Yeah - that's what's under the rubber boot, un-plug it there. Works for track-days too. Z |
