I was wondering if anyone new of any good buell techs in southern Ontario. The HD dealers that I deal with just use the manuall and ask me what I think is going on! It's ridiculous I would love to find someone who really knows that rotax engine and could help me out with problems. I get way better info on this sight then I ever got at any service shop that I have been at.

I know you said Ontario, but are you close to a Detroit/Windsor border crossing? I bought my 1125CR from Biker Bob's in Taylor, MI and have nothing but good things to say about them. One of their tech guys used to race a Buell.

Paul,
I use Barrie HD who have a good attitude and try to keep us Buellers happy.

Chatham is closer to Detroit than Barrie isn't it? Nice for you to have a choice. I don't.

I am interested in what fellow Ont Buellers have to say on this thread....

I'm in Windsor - Thunder Road has been good to me; not that they have had to do a whole lot with my bike. It's been in for the stator recall, first service and is currently there getting some plastic's replaced (idiot turned left in front of me, I went down missing him, thankful he stayed and insurance took care of everything) I think one of their tech's is pretty into Buell and racing. The only issue I've experienced is that it takes forever for them to get parts- I think that is more of an issue with the HD corporate supply chain though.

Thunder road is where I purchased and service my bike and I agree that they treat there customers well but I always get the impresion that they really don't know to much about the bike. I was just curious if there were any techs who really knew the bike not just good mechanics who can muddle through, u know what I mean? I'm not bad mouthing anyone that I've dealt with I was just curious.

I guess in terms of techs, I'd rather see a guy who takes a few minutes to read the manual to figure out the procedure for what they are doing rather that a tech who just muddles through without researching. That said- if you are looking for more than the basics they probably won't be much help. At least at TR when I spoke to them about de-noiding, they knew what I was talking about. Same goes for exhaust and ecm (I just bought (not through TR) a Barkers and the matching ebr ecm). TR at least seemed familiar with the Buell after market when I mentioned the new exhaust to them.

I think that the bigger issue is that we are riding bikes that are a bit on the exotic side and finding any sort of tech that knows the bike inside or out is going to be difficult. Buell's just aren't the bread and butter of the HD dealerships around here; they just don't get to work on enough of them.

I'm guessing you're not a fan of the other HD dealership in the area?

That's funny that u mention the de-noid issue I am the one who informed them of that and which companies were making exhaust pipes aswell, they noticed my ebr ECM last time my bike was in there for the 10 000 km service and how ebr matched there ECM's to specific pipes. I like the guys there, like I said I was just looking for inside track on someone who was a buell fan and happened to be a tech.

Did you have a little mis-adventure with an exhaust?

At TR when I mentioned my new exhaust they talked about someone who had put an exhaust on and had to take it off because it was way too loud.

Hey..
I bought my bike during the fire sale at Thunder Road too. It's a 2.5 to 3 hour drive for me to get there, so I don't go there for service. I've been splitting my warranty work between Rocky's in London (they have 2 factory trained techs there) and Jaycox in Mississauga. It's about the same length of drive for me to get to either location.

I will say that that Jaycox did leave me with a better impression though - their techs were much more proactive than Rocky's in my opinion.

Later!
