What is the proper repair,is it just seals or the seals and piston.Local shop is saying that it may be just the seals and have to take it apart and look before they order parts. Is there a service bullitin saying what the repair is other than the info that comes with the kit #x2086.1am

Could be just seals, but likely should be seals and slave piston.

To me knowledge, you do have to take it apart (and thus drop the fluid) to diagnose. You don't have to pull the clutch cover necessarily -- but watch out when you remove that center nut the whole assembly can spring out on you spitting fluid everywhere.

I'm notorious for servicing the clutch pack without pulling the slave per the service manual. Sometimes it gets me.

Rev A (original cover) = soft cylinder and hard piston (piston eats away at cylinder...the fluid leaks out)
fix is get Rev B kit (Hard Cylinder, soft piston)
If you got rev B kit installed - then it's seal replacement time... and yes - be careful of the spring loaded piston AFTER you remove the spherical nut - sometimes the hydraulic "seal/containment" will hold the piston in place until some air leaks in and then..."sprong" parts and fluid go flying- not fun as the DOT4 eats paint - the spring is not too strong - just strong enough to send things flying - if you do the work yourself - make sure the cylinder is clean and smooth otherwise the seals will fail again.

what cover do you have?
if it's the B cover...just do the piston seals...should be fine after that...easy repair..

If it's an 08 that's never been done, it's cover A. The puck will look like the one on the other side on the stator cover.

09 and up came with B, and the puck is larger than on the stator side.

Good on ya there Tony, good thing to stock.

OT - gotta strip Loretta for paint soon.
When she's done, gotta decide where to put your team decal.
I'll be proud to show it off!

I ride a 2009 CR, it has a Rev. B cover.
I believe that just the Piston linings(PN CR0001.3AM and CR0002.3AM) would work.
Thanks.
