Who has done it? Was it easy or a P.I.T.A.? Did you have to remove header pipes? What changes/differences/improvements have you noticed and/or been able to document via temp gauge/thermal reader and/or dyno? thanks. |

I wrapped the header on my S1W a while back (when it had the stock header). Didn't make a *bit* of difference - heat, performance, or otherwise. But, I did get to spend about three days picking wet fiberglass shards out of my hands As far as the process...I did it off-bike. Soak the wrap first overnight - the theory being a) you get less bits in your skin, and b) the 'glass will "size" (shrink) as it dries, giving you a tighter wrap than you could ever get by hand. I know. Apples (tuber) and oranges (1125)...but the wrap itself? I won't be doing it again. YMMV, of course. |

How is it possible not to reduce heat when you're adding a layer of insulation to the headers? |

Have one with and one without. So far, only difference I can tell is a little less heat on my rt. leg. Since the wrapped bike didn't have a heat shield to start with (bought it that way) it is an improvement. Easy to put on, took more than the 24 hrs. to dry though when I wanted to be riding, and it stained my hands for a week or so. Didn't take off the header pipes. |

If you've ever ridden an S1W (or any early tuber, for that matter)...you know how hot the header gets on the right leg. I always wear gear - jeans and overpants with armor. I could still feel heat through them. I wrapped...and it was no better and no worse. The pipes still radiate heat with a wrap. Touch one. I dare ya. The wrap cuts down on how FAR they radiate the heat...and apparently the distance from a tuber header to my right leg was still within the "hot zone". All that said, I'm not UNcomfortable on the bike by any stretch. But I figured if I could make an iffy situation better, I'd give it a shot. It stayed iffy, and quite frankly I hated the look. Not really lose-lose...but more tie-lose. So, my race header is proudly displayed on the bike with no wrap |
