Well for the third time in a row now, my clutch reservoir is bone dry, its sucking air through the weep hole and blowing brake fluid. And before it gets said, yep, I brought in the revision kit PN from day one, so ideally we can rule out incorrect parts!

I'm not looking to point fingers or lay blame, the techs working with me went to bat for me and really have been busting their asses to get parts in fast to keep turnaround down, but I want to go in with suggestions as to what else might be at play here. Unless the kit is simply being installed incorrectly, this shouldn't be happening.

Is there ANYTHING else that could be causing this problem consistently with the revision kit? A first time botched install is a possibility but the fact that it did it again with all new parts screams an underlying problem. Too much pressure somehow? Not getting bled properly or something?

Slave cylinder? Something inside the clutch itself? This is getting SO effing frustrating. I will be dropping the bike off for the third time for clutch weep. Am I doing something wrong here? Is there some other underlying issue that might be at play?

I started weeping around 8500mi or so then it turned into a full on leak after roughly 200mi. I hadn't put more than 500mi on the first install before it popped, this time I got maybe a hundred or so before it popped again. Both me AND the service manager are getting frustrated at this problem. Help me out here guys!

Suggestions if ya please! I want to help them out as best I can to get this rectified ASAP. I need my bike, car isn't really safe to drive at the moment.

Huh... thats certainly not very comforting news hearing that revision kits aren't working out perfectly as they were supposed to... : (

This sounds familiar, at 8500, mine started leaking then the stator died so it was down for 3 weeks, I got it back put 1000 miles on it and the clutch weep hole started spewing brake fluid.

My experience might be different, but they said they fixed it the first time, then when I took it back they said they had to call harley to figure out what to do since mine also had the updated parts, well I finally got it back 3 weeks later and it isn't leaking yet. So maybe the initial install was botched. Hope mine is permanently fixed, and I hope you get yours sorted out, I had to ride my dad's triumph cruiser because my truck, my car, and my ninja all were taken apart for one reason or another, I am lucky and thankful that he had a spare vehicle I could borrow. Best of luck to you.

Are you sure they ordered the part number you gave? If it doesn't show on your invoice, then I wouldn't believe them.

Everything can be done incorrectly. They are no less human than you or I and in many cases, you and I are more likely to do it right.

I'm just hesitant to believe that this is being done incorrectly twice in a row though. I can see the first time, but twice? I dunno. Work orders have the revision kit both times, I gave them the part number and was very adamant I wanted the revision kit ordered, NOT just specific parts.

I genuinely believe there has to be something else at play here. Would a bad slave cylinder cause an over-pressure situation that would force the piston too far and pop the seals? I just can't believe its a workmanship issue twice in a row. There HAS to be something else going on inside the hydraulic system.

Same clutch cover or different? Only thing I can think of is that the bore in the clutch cover has a bur or is slightly out of tolerance causing the sleeve seals to leak.

First time they kept the old cover on at my insistence because it would have resulted in an insane backorder time and it was mid summer. Didn't want to miss out on ride time.

Second time, however, they replaced the cover. Thats a good point though, I had considered maybe there was something going on inside the bore to maybe cause a poor mating surface, thus compromising the seals.

could be in the cover could be installation of the cover. i haven't taken mine off before can any tell us if there are any alignment dowels? also i am wondering if the shaft bore going through the case is a fraction of a fraction off due to 'tolerances'

I'm on my 3rd clutch cover.
Got the "dribble" around 1000-1200 miles, I have 26+k miles now.

I have an early 08 and lo-sided in 09 -

Bought a new RevB cover -
Still dribbled, put her in for warranty months later when Service was slow.

Got a RevB cover and X2086.1AM and NO leaks since.

Almost a year ago, still dry, level constant in res.

Done right, this fixes the dribble/gush.

Went to take my '08 out yesterday and found the clutch lever with loads of freeplay and the master reservoir almost empty. It was working fine when I laid the bike up a few days ago. (So had to go for a ride on my Ducati)
I had the RevB cover and the X2086.1AM kit (Dealer) fitted less than 1k miles ago.
Pulled it apart today and found no fluid behind the puck, but it poured out when the cover was removed.
Can't see any scuffing on the piston or liner but fail to see why the two seals on the piston cost so much - anyone found any replacements for them and the sleeve 'o' rings? I really don't want to buy off the MoFuCo after their behaviour, now the bike is out of Warranty.

Mine just started leaking for the third time. The last time it was fixed with the Revb cover and the updated kit (X2086.1AM). That was at 18000 miles. I am now at 22000 so the updated kit lasted 4000 miles.

I've ordered new sleeve and piston seals and will do the work myself this time.

So does anyone have any idea which seals are the culprit (piston, sleeve or both)?

My sleeve was very snug and dry inside the cover, so I suspect the very expensive seals on the piston were the guilty party.
The thread on the end of the release shaft is just asking for a pivoted lever to be bolted on the end of it

Hello guys,
i guess I'm gonna join the bleeding team : )
I have 1125r-ully "transformer" I think one of a kind. Just got it back from my buddy technician and barely managed to get to the garage ~35 mile ride with heavy clutch leak. I've called HD in McHenry IL , got to shed ~480.00 for the parts. Isn't that ridiculous? I've bought half of a bike from them for ~ 1500. They advised me to order 2 parts, one of them is "sleeve" or something. So I'm wandering here how much miles will I be able to put in it , till the next bleed? I'm currently at ~3500 miles

Thanks

Rob

Rob, the parts to fix the clutch leak should only be over $200, not over $400. A few members here have gone 10,000 miles without another leak.

Thanks

FWIW - I just had my clutch weep service done.
My service writer told me that the new cover was being used, when I asked why he said that the cover was beefed up to work better.

The clutch seems to be releasing faster and crisper than ever. Neutral was never hard to find, it is now very, very easy to find. :-)

My 2010 CR has a leaking clutch - it seems that the latest revision of the clutch causes it to leak internally - there was no telltale dribble, just no fluid in the reservoir.

The bike's now been at the dealer for 6 weeks waiting on one seal ...

... and parts supply is only going to get worse !

SM,I took my clutch parts to Maz yesterday. Spondon (who owns a CNC engineering company was there too - he makes the billet engine mounts for Tubers, I have them on my bikes and they are excellent) Drawings are being made for different fluid port locations in the sleeve. One problem mine had was that the sleeve had been 'rocking' in the cover.
Their solution looks quite 'doable'

I just had new seals made put em in no problems 1000+ miles now and it only takes about 20 min to replace em so I am gonna stick with that for now I have 3 more sets of seals so I should be good for awhile.

I'd be happy just replacing the seals every few thou too, but the MoFuCo want £50GBP for the piston seals alone. The O rings are 'normal' price.......and I REALLY want to avoid the MoFuCo having another penny off me after their disgraceful behaviour.

The ports have been modified (got sent the photos by the Engineer today on my phone, but they're too small to show any detail) and my cover and assembled slave components are now on a vacuum rig to test for static fluid leaks.

Fingers crossed
