Well, for the 4th (or 5th, I lost track) time, the CR is back in the shop for the same issue.

Once again, this is the issue where the CEL comes on, the bike starts surging noticeably past 4K RPM, and all together just cuts the engine off. Error codes are P0087 (same as always) and P0193 (new one to me).

This time, however, I was on my way to visit a friend who lives about 2 minutes from my servicing dealer, and I managed to limp the bike there. Just in front of the shop, it kept dying, luckily they were outside so they heard what it was doing, when I finally made it to their service door and offered to let the tech ride it so he could see exactly what it was doing, he said "no need, I heard it." The bike was idling in front of us and then just suddenly shut off. He grabbed the codes and said he'd get on it ASAP.

I love the CR, but this is getting ridiculous.

JoseB - Passion seems to amplify love/hate emotions. Patience is a virtue.

My first Buell 14 years ago was a used 96 S1 with 7K mi. By the time I sorted it all out, recalls, and quality issues the bike became and is very reliable. I have basically thrashed the bike for 96K miles with fluid changes every 1K miles.

When the CR goes in for service the S1 starts right up after months of being ignored.

Hang in there once the bike is sorted out and your 'reliability confidence' goes up you will be enjoying the most forgiving super bike out there.

What have they done to it so far?

ODBC II Code P0087 is Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low
ODBC II Code P0193 is Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input

so it's likely it's fuel pressure related, either a faulty sensor or a possible leak somewhere as fuel pressure is being reported as too low (which would explain the erratic running etc).

Have they swapped anything out yet (fuel pump, pressure sensor, injectors etc)?

Danny - I am trying to keep a positive attitude, mostly because I know what an amazing machine the CR can be when it's running as it should. I rant mostly because I am upset that I can't be out riding, guess it's time to look for a second bike

Jules - The part that sucks about all of this is that every time I take it in, they can't reproduce the problem and the bike runs fine for them. The last time it was in the shop they fixed the hard starting problem. I guess the sprag clutch was bad and some of the teeth on the starter gear had broken off. At that time they found some metal shavings in a magnetized collector area (don't remember where exactly) and they hypothesized that this was what was causing the P0087 code and that clearing out those shavings should resolve the fuel issues.

Hopefully now that they witnessed the problem first hand and have a new code to work with, they can narrow it down. I did mention to them that someone here on the board said they had the same code and it ended up being a bad fuel pump (previous topic), my tech said he'd investigate it.

I know the feeling. I'm sittin right now waiting for a fuel pump assy. It'll be 3 weeks. I love the bike but I'm really tired of it being at the dealer. I personally would not have bought this bike if I had known all the problems I would be dealing with. It's been at the dealer for a total of 13 weeks since I bought it in feb. of 09. Befor the sale BTW.

I'm waiting for a fuel pump also. It's been 3 weeks since they ordered it.

If they're going to keep it for three weeks, they might as well keep it until March lol. Riding season is pretty much done around here, save for a few odd days here and there.

Is there anywhere I can get a listing of the ODBC II Codes?

Should be able to do a search online for codes. Or...it should be in the manual.

Electrical Diagnostic Manual, it is one of 3 manuals you need.
The other two are the Factory Service Manual and the Parts book.

Money WELL spent.

Any time a Harley or Buell code says circuit high. or circuit low.

It is refering to the electrical circuit so in this instance I would believe the fuel pressure sensor or wiring would be the items to look at.

A few pressure test takes minutes.

sensor replacement not much more.
