The battery light came on (for the first time ever) as I shut it down at work in the AM. It barely restarted, showed 12.2V and with revs the V slowly climbed. I headed back home. On the ride, with the High Beam off, the V slowly climbed to 13.6V. With the High Beam on the V slowly dropped back to 12.4V. This was very repeatable and a clear indication that the charging system is not keeping up with the load. Is this the harbinger of stator failure? |

It sounds like you have the harness upgrade? Did you do much idling before the light came on? The fact that it climbed to 13.6 means that it's still charging. |

No harness upgrade. Here to fore I've been keeping a pretty close eye on the voltage readout. It has never been below 12.8 before yesterday and it usually is 13.8~14.2 under normal operating conditions. (Message edited by pwillikers on November 10, 2010) |

At least it's still charging. Mine didn't give a battery light until after it completely quit, but the volts never went above 12.9 at any rpms and it didn't start back up after shutdown. Then after pushing starting it, which was hell, it wouldn't charge at all on the way home and eventually your volts will drop below 10. If it starts, i'd keep riding it. |

12.4 below 4k RPM is fine. My brand new stator does that. |
