Seeing another thread about how many miles people have done has shown that there are some high mileage bikes out there. As I've only done a few thousand on mine so far I can't add anything to this, however as somebody who generally keeps my bikes for a while I'm expecting to put 40+k miles on mine over the next couple of years so am interested in pictures of these high mileage bikes. Interesting things are about how does the frame stand up to knee's rubbing, corrosion on the fixings, state of the wheels after so many tyre changes, any stripped threads, seized items, etc, etc, and of course any mods that have proven to be worthwhile. I appreciate that high mileage is very different to age (and owner care matters even more)but it would be interesting to see some detail shots of what we can expect. I read that somebody has done 60,000 - the same as my BMW (7 British winters with all that salt hasn't been kind!!)so would love to details of this one. |

It really depends on the riding environment, how much you take care of and clean/maintain the bike, and way too many other factors to list in one post. Some bikes like mine look like crap at 45k, while others will look brand new. |

I have one that looks like crap. It needed new radiators, oil cooler, radiator lines, steering head bearings, motor, and an endless litany of other service work. It was in tough shape. Riding in the rain is hard on them. Track duty is, too. |

While my 1125CR only has just under 15,000 miles... I just took the clutch out of my 03, Yamaha R1 because of a strange noise...I found nothing wrong, not even the any of the plates. And this is at 99,056 miles...! Though I did...just before the time change, hit a chunk of tire on the freeway and it did break a chunk of lower fairing. Other than that and normal sand blasting in the front...I've won three monetary bets on the fact that it had over 75,000 miles, while actually at 87,000+ miles. If...my CR lasts that long, it'll look the same way. I'm on my forth (the CR) Sport Bike to go to 100,000 miles Just take care of things. Mike |

it really depends on the (wo)man which is riding the bike... my bike only got 3500 miles but looks like a brand new one, cause i clean it after every ride or tour. The bike of my friend got 2000 miles and look like dirt bike, but he is a street rider - so now you can imagine how long his bike would be alive.... My first bike got nearly 60000 miles, (i bought it with 40000...) so if i won´t see this fantastic buell for just 8000 €, i still already would have the same bike (Message edited by _gdkp_ on November 10, 2010) |

I'm the guy with over 61,000 miles. I live in Western Washington state where we get a fair bit of rain which I obviously ride in otherwise I wouldn't have this many miles. I have NEVER washed my bike personally because I'm that F$%^ing lazy. The only time it gets washed is when the dealer does it after service. My rear wheel is black due to the exhaust dumping on it. There is a bit of rust color on some of the fasteners, mostly on the bars/controls area. Pretty much all the other fasteners are coated and don't corrode. The frame is darkened where my legs are, particularly where the knees are. I believe this is due to my $300 Firstgear leather overpants leeching the black dye onto the frame. Plenty of pictures can be seen below. I can take more of whatever you want. http://picasaweb.google.com/pauledwards/2008Buell1 125R |

I have 22K miles on mine. Ceramic coated the headers and exhaust as they are the only components to really show any weathering.

Wow...Absolutely beautiful, Spectrum. I could post mine for a compare/contrast session. Pretty close to you @ 24K miles, but I have not even washed mine since a month before Homecoming this year. |

Thanks guys, I do look after my vehicles so it's comforting to know that this one will stand up to some good proper use. Really like the look of the ceramic coating on the exhaust, definitely going to look into that as I actually really like the standard exhaust. The reason for this question was that I've just come out of a bad relationship (it feels like that!!) with a Moto Morini Corsaro that promised so much but failed to deliver on many levels. |
