Hey guys. Im in iraq right now and will be coming home in a month or so. All year Ive been looking at all the exhausts, eagerly awaiting the shootout Al did, and trying to do as much research as possible. However I seem to be just as, if not mor, undecided as I was when I started. What Im looking for is a little advice from the peanut gallery as to what their experience or opinion is for street use. Im not really looking to install the race ecm either. So with that being said which exhaust tends to be most reliable/compatible with the rest of the bike being stock? Noise isnt a huge concern either seeing as how the louder sound is a welcomed addistion seeing as how drivers here in Savannah, GA are the worst Ive ever experienced in being aware of bikes on the road. I appreciate any input u guys can give. Thanx |

I like my carbon fiber Jardine RT-5. Still, I gotta say, if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably save up the extra shekels and go with Kevin's Drummer. |

Your best bet is the stock exhaust and a race ECM. |

Froggy, what kind of improvements does the stock muffler and race ecm create? |

Im pretty sure Froggy would say that the Erik Buell Racing ecm smooths out low end rpm and runs stronger throughout the powerband. Awesome upgrade BTW. Stock exhaust because nobody builds an aftermarket one that isnt loud as all hell. I have the Keda RT1, which I believe is one of the quietest aftermarket options, but it is still far too loud IMHO. Dont get me wrong, it sounds fantastic but I wish I could just turn down the volume a little. I just cant believe that there isnt an aftermarket option that puts falls somewhere inbetween the stocker and whats available. (Message edited by rpm4x4 on October 22, 2010) |

The more I look into it the more i think i might get the Erik Buell Racing ecm. if im gonna upgrade the bike i wanna do it right. As for the noise i want loud but im not trying to make myself deaf either. the stock muffler is just too quiet. ill take a little too loud than not loud enough |

I have 4 different designs available, as well as a modified stock exhaust. All of them add sound, some more than others, with prices ranging from $275 to $899 + shipping, polished is optional. The custom systems are hand made to order, so there is a delay on getting one. If you've read the shootout, you know where they all fall for torque and horsepower. What it doesn't tell you is how deep the tone is for any of them. I doubt you'll find one with a deeper note for under $1000. www.keda-design.com |

D- I was literally just on your site. I really like the RT-1. How often and how difficult is repacking going to be? And any way itcould be packed with the Bristol Core from the get go? (Message edited by dreso1021 on October 22, 2010) |

I use a stainless wool wrap with sport packing around that, which fills out the shell. Just a guess, it will last 10-20k miles. I have about 6k on the RT-4 prototype and it's holding up nicely. Absolutely no changes to it's tone or volume. No power losses either, which means it hasn't blown out yet. Repacking an RT-1 or 2 requires cutting the shell open and then welding it back together. It would probably take an hour or so to repack one and weld it up. I can call for pricing on the Bristol packing, but I know it's probably 2x more expensive than what I currently use, and I don't think it will last a lot longer. |

I need to either do a install writeup or make a video. Nothing about it is difficult, although there are a few things that you can do to make it easy to remove the stock pipe. The biggest help is to loosen the right footpeg bracket. Taking the stock can off is a 10-15 minute job, tops. Installing one of mine usually takes 5 minutes for me, although it could take someone like Froggy several days. :-) |

They're working on it, but their standard calibration will net you somewhere around 137-138 hp. I would expect more with an optimized tune, possibly 140 at the wheel. Basically, the race ECM smooths out everything, but it shifts the power up earlier in the rpm range. At 4k rpm, it makes maybe 9 ft/lbs more torque and roughly the same for hp. It maintains that power all the way through to redline. |

Yes, but it does run lean. Every aftermarket pipe out there runs lean, some just make a lot more power than others. You will notice a larger performance gain with the ECM, in addition to it running much better. (Message edited by d_adams on October 23, 2010) |

I love my Barkers, but with the stock ECM you more than likely will have a CEL come up. With a race ECM, it's the shit... |

I am using the Erik Buell Racing ECM with a standard race map with my RT-4. It smooths out the power like everyone has mentioned, takes away a lot of the engine braking, and seems to start better when its hot or cold out. |

I have a Torque Hammer and really like it. Nice mellow sound, louder but not excessive. No packing to blow out. And it looks similar to the stock but better. IMO most of the others don't look like they were designed for this bike, the Drummer comes close, but others are like something from a dirt bike hung on. I thought long and hard when I made my decision and chose the Torque Hammer. And I will sell mine. 600 bucks, you pay shipping. I am building it into a track only bike and will go with the full Erik Buell Racing race exhaust, meaning the headers won't fit my Torque Hammer. |
