This is probably nothing, but never hurts to ask those that know much more than I do. I did some hunting around and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. And yes, I'm pretty sure I'm doing the TPS reset properly on my '09R ... Here's the scoop >> My bike just came back from a stator replacement at 3,100 miles. I put the OEM ECM in for its trip to the dealer. It runs great (better than I remember actually), but noticed the TPS in Diag mode goes from 2.0 to 93'ish. It's always been 2 - 100. I tried a few resets, and still the same. I then put the E B R unit in, and it's exactly the same there too. One oddity that's consistent across both units: When I roll the throttle full open, it stops at 93'ish but will climb slowly if held there. Another oddity: If I double throttle it (roll full throttle, release ever so slightly and then roll back to WOT) it goes to 100. The throttle cables seem fine, and the bike runs great with either ECM, although I prefer the E B R one. Should I be concerned that it's only going to 93'ish? The bike is running as well as it ever did, and there's only so many TPS resets I can do before I think I'm losing my mind I foresee another 100 miles of twisties today, work permitting ... Pop the inner airbox cover off and take a look at the throttle linkages. Also look to see if the breather hose on the RHS of the airbox base (when facing towards the front of the bike) is poking up as sometimes this either slips down or is not installed properly and fouls the throttle linkages creating exactly the issue you describe. The rubber hose interferes with openning but gently moves to allow the 100% you see on sustained opening In addition take a look at the TBs and see if the vents look fully open at WOT |

How do you know the TPS has been reset? I followed the instructions when I installed my new ECM but I can't be sure it actually reset. I am on an 08. |

Good question - Since I was not able to get mine to go back to its previous rock-solid 2% - 100% display, I figured there was a problem or I was just doing it incorrectly. I followed the service manual, so I might just have to tear into the inner airbox and look for what Jules mentioned. I was thinking that was the next step, but good to ask the good folks here first IMO. Mike |

Check that vent line before you try to pull the baseplate to get access to the linkages. |

E-B-R ECM automatically resets TPS when you run the ignition: "DDFI3 race ECMs are programmed to auto zero the Throttle Position Sensor when they are initially powered up. Be sure your throttle is fully closed when initially keying on your motorcycle after installing your ECM. You can manually zero you TPS ...." |

Zac, good advice ... I can check that vent tube clearance quite easily I believe? Not wanting to yank things that aren't necessary, risking doing damage to something else in the process. I have my good days and bad days Dc, that's what I heard from E B R on the Race ECM, and I've found it to be true. It always resets itself properly when I re-install it whenever it comes home from the dealer. Since it's topping at 93%'ish now, thinking something mechanical at play. Mike |

This came from Erik Buell Racing when I received mine... Two things need to be done after install of this race ECM to make sure everything works properly: 1) TPS re-set 1) Turn the key on and make sure kill switch is on run. Leave this way until step 6. 2) Do not start bike. 3) Turn throttle to full open and hold about one second. 4) Release throttle completely so it snaps shut. Wait one second. 5) Repeat the steps 3 and 4 (full throttle, hold and release) two more times. 6) Turn the key off for at least two seconds. 7) Then you can turn on and start. 2) IAC averaging re-set Start bike and let it idle for ten minutes. |

I had a similar issue with my stock bike not going to 100%, it was the throttle linkage getting caught on the lower airbox lid. Dealer re-adjusted it, good as new now. |

When I asked E B R about a TPS reset, they said it would be unnecessary ... Only do it if it wasn't 2% - 100% as it should be. Froggy, suspect something like that with mine since both ECM's (OEM and E B R) show the exact same conditions. Bike still runs like nuts though! Wouldn't have thought anything of it if I weren't checking Diags for S-n-G's. Mike |

Only reason I had it looked into was due to the binding, it sometimes would randomly feel like something was dragging when cruising. Almost like a sudden strong headwind. Either way, its fixed now and has been problem free. |

Update: All better now, back to the normal 2% - 100% without any hiccups in the path. It was the tube that comes up through the lower housing on the right (viewed sitting on bike) of the throttle bodies. It was depressed down into the hole, almost falling out. Once I pulled it up to give it the amount of clearance I saw in the denoid threads months back, we're good to go. Easy fix, have to go ride 100+ miles to test Mike |
