Reformated as press release with additional info from Shawn 10/18/10 Rosamond, CA Issued by Rob Weaver, crotchrocket.tv For Immediate Release Higbee Wins Streets of Willow Springs F1 Race on a Buell1125R It was a hard fought battle from flag to flag on "The Streets", but Shawn rode a perfect race on his Bartels HD / Antelope Valley HD Buell 1125R, holding off 17 year old phenom Bryce Prince on his Yamaha R6 from start to finish. It was the young upstart against the seasoned master and Higbee dished out a lesson in precision to the youngster. To Prince's credit, he ran a near perfect race, keeping the pressure on by showing Shawn a wheel more than once. Higbee commented, "I knew he was there and I just charged every turn and never let up. I figured the tight turn onto the front straight might be my weak point, so I had to spin the tire and square off the corner, then stand it up for the drive onto the straight." The strategy worked as Higbee's 1125R lead the Yamaha for the entire 12 lap Formula One race. In fact, that corner exit almost spelled disaster for Prince when, in trying to stay with the master, he barely saved a high side as he pushed a little too hard and lost the rear end. Prince demonstrated composure and determination beyond his years, by staying on the gas and getting right back in the hunt. By the end of the race they had left the pack in the dust. Higbee set the fast lap time for the the race at 1:14.394. And ultimately the precise riding of Higbee and the incredible handling of the Buell would not be denied. It was amazing to see two riders separated by a generation, finish within feet of each other. Higbee said, "I'm very proud to put the Buell on top of the box as a way to say thanks to the amazing community of Buell riders who continue to support our race efforts." Shawn was so excited and proud to take that victory with his "stock" powered Buell. I have seen him at Willow Springs since he first showed up with the 1125R and stock belt drive - to this past season racing a Yamaha R6 and the Moto Forza Ducati 1098R of Eric Nolan ( which he won the F1 race on the big track with). He is the master of the hole shot on that Buell! The only time I have ever seen him not get into first place by turn one was in September on the big track being out horse powered by Toye on the BMW S100RR after Shawn had already passed him on the initial start. I thought James Randolf on the KTM RC8R was going to be the big challenger in the F1 race, but Bryce Prince was smoking fast just like in the earlier 600 race where he handily beat track champion Lowry. Bryce liked to force a pass right before the skid pad in a earlier race, and tried the same to Shawn, but Shawn said he saw a wheel but there was no way he was shutting off. He should have went 3 for 3 on his races but for a zip tie on his fairing that we ( Shawn and I ) knew needed to be added, resulted in a upper fairing episode in the last twins race. Luckily he did not crash, and finished second to Randolf and the KTM in a race he had covered. 1:14.394 lap time huh. We will see next weekend on my two day track day if I can get within 20 seconds a lap of that time. |
