So my 1125R is approaching the 12000 mile mark and I decided to change the plugs. Actually I had misplaced the board that I usually hit myself in the head with while rhythmically chanting and I need something to take its place...so plug change it is. Starting at the beginning, Remove the seat, outer and inner airbox covers, Air filter, airbox base plate and air intake snorkel from under the front of the bike. Remove the screws holding the coils down(one each) and unplug the connector to the coil. Someone had posted a video of removing the front coil without rotating the engine, and I watched again. That is after I had tried to remove the front coil and thought no f*****g way is this thing coming out of there. It actually takes a fair amount of force to "turn the corner". I reached up between the front tire and fairing, pulled the coil up until it hit the frame and pulled down toward the front tire. The rubber boot that goes over the plug has to bend for the coil to come out and it is pretty stiff. I then dropped my 5/8" spark plug socket into the hole followed by a 3" extension. I Clicked them together in the hole and fit it onto the spark plug. Reaching up from the front I attached the socket wrench and broke the plug loose. I then removed the wrench and placed a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter on the end of the extension to give myself something to grab to finish removing the plug from the hole. Here's where it gets a little tricky, those of you who are tall or have unnaturally long arms wont have any trouble. Reaching up from under the fairing with the left arm and over the top with the right, pull the adapter, extension and spark plug socket up and remove each from the other as they come out of the hole. My Spark plug socket doesn't have the rubber O ring that holds the plug so I had to improvise to get the plug out. I took a piece of tubing from an old Camel back drinking tube and taped a small magnet in the end of it. Place the tube in the hole, magnet grabs plug and out she comes. To reinstall, flip the tube around stick the plug into the open end and thread the plug into the hole without fear of cross threading it(Don't forget Anti-seize). Repeat the process of dropping socket, extension and wrench and tighten. To make reinstalling the coil MUCH easier I placed a tiny amount of Vaseline on the outer edge of the spark plug boot on the side where it will touch the hole in the valve cover and it slipped right in. I guess Vaseline is not just for prison sex.  I'm attaching pictures of the tools used and the plugs that were removed at 11280 miles. Fire away with any questions. | ||

Avalaugh, I probably wouldn't have tried it without seeing your video. Thanks again. Cherry bomb, I put the stock NGK CR9EKB's back in it. The old plugs look great at almost 12K. I'm not sure what advantage the Iridiums would have. | ||
