Well after reading the stator threads and thinking, that will never happen to me, it looks like it has. I noticed today on the freeway that the voltage was going from 13.7 to 13.4, and it usually stays up around 14-13.7. Then when i got into town, it would drop to 12.7 at the stop lights, when i got moving again it would go into the low 13's. I had just tendered it for 24 hours, so i know the battery was at 100%. I use my bike to commute, and parts of my commute are in an area of town that I don't want to be broke down in for safety reasons. My question is, I think my stator is starting to go out, what should i do? I would like to call my dealer and see if they will test it and change it out before it completely fails. The dealer that i plan on taking it to is skipfordyce in riverside, ca. I am not sure how buell friendly they are, but i think i remember reading on this forum that a few members had good luck with them. Should i ask them to change out the stator and VR? Should I try and get an 08 stator? I need to have this bike be reliable, I don't use the accessory power port, so i do not need the extra juice of the 09 stator. I would hate to ride the bike until the stator fails completely. It is an 09 cr, with about 3500 miles on it, harness done at 1900 miles. The bike did go down once, and there is road rash on the stator cover. Do you guys think the dealer will try to get out of covering the stator because the cover is scraped up? |

What you describe is the harness upgrade doing it's thing. Not ideal, but that is typical behavior. If it charges up when you are revving, the stator is still charging. If it stops charging...then the stator is about to die. |

I agree. Sounds like normal harness behavior. Wouldn't get too worried yet. I might hazard a guess that normally when you take the bike out it is for shorter trips(?) If you keep it on a tender, especially with a really good battery, you don't see the harness-related voltage dips right away. Once the surface charge of the battery wears off you start to see the voltage cycles. |

Try it with the high beam off. I find voltage doesn't drop at idle with it off... |

I had the marks on my stator cover since the first week I owned it. Dropped it at about 5mph in a strange stupid convoluted sort of way. They didn't say anything about that but looked at the nearly no chicken strips and said, "look's like your enjoying your bike". I had 3 of the main charging components replaced at 10,000 miles and have cypherd since then that the charging voltage is constantly changing. Mine is high at cold start-up, and it will go back up to high once warmed up, loping along in a higher gear around 4000 rpms an such when the engine is fairly cool. Any time when its really hot it will show lesser volts on the meter. It looks like to me that the harness is trying to keep the volts down in a hot, low rpm scenario. A hot start-up on mine will show volts as low as 13.3 but that will climb once under way. |

The high beam is off. I can see the voltage drop even more with the high beam on. I have never seen the voltage drop into the 12's at idle on my bike. It has me a little nervous, as i need to be able to rely on my bike. |
