Saw some other threads w/fuel light and CEL issues but this seems a little different since I don't get a CEL.

2009 1125CR. I verified I have the latest cluster.

As she gets low on fuel, the fuel light and fuel counter come on at startup but then go off in a minute or so.

The next time I start her up, same issue. Fuel light and fuel mileage counter come on(reset to zero) but then go off after a minute or so.

I'm not sure if there is a threshold where both will come on and stay on but don't really want to find out the hard way.

FWIW, this seems to have started ~300 miles ago. Prior to that I don't recall any 'false positives.' She has just over 1k now.

Anyone else seen this issue? Is there a fix? I'm not putting a lot of faith in my nearest dealer to diagnose...

Any help appreciated.

My R does the same. I just assume the fuel pick-up is on the right side, so on the sidestand it is leaned enough to show low fuel. Once upright and riding the light and trip counter resets. I *think* it's perfectly normal. Once the level is too low in the upright position, the light and counter stay on. No biggie...

Thanks for the replies all!

Interesting point on the fuel level sensor location. I might try starting her 'stood up' and see if it makes any difference.

I'll keep running her and see if the fuel light comes on and stays on before running dry.

Starting upright probably won't make a difference unless you set it that way for some time. The fuel level "pickup" responds very slowly.

Should have written it down--stupid of me-- but i think I got 19.x miles on light before running out in a gas station parking lot. Luck beat my foolishness that round, wont be a second round : )

Responsive fuel level sensor? Nope. LOL.

That's about 23 MPG. Take it easy on the throttle when the light comes on =P

As stated above, the fuel pump and sensor are on the right side of the bike. The sensor works by temperature. When the sensor is covered in gas, the LFL is off, but when it exposed to air, it is no longer being cooled by the gas and will trigger the LFL. If you are starting to get low on gas, and happen to park the bike, the gas will end up on the left side of the frame and as result not cool the sensor and trigger the LFL. Drive it another 20 miles and it will stay on.

Both my 1125's and XB do this, it is normal. The XB has the pump on the left side, so it isn't affected as much.

K, low fuel light finally came on and stayed on yesterday. Fuel counter is doing it's thing.

I get home and leave the bike running in neutral while I go hit the keypad to open the gate. While I'm entering in the code, bike shuts off.

Yep, out of gas. Low fuel pressure error msg and all.

Fuel trip meter count? 11 miles.

I'm a fairly conservative rider and believe it unlikely that I burned through the reserve in 11 miles commuting to lunch, back to work and then home. I also recall getting 20 miles on reserve before.

I'll have to adjust my 'hard stop' fuel expectations moving forward.

Again, the fuel pump is on the right side, you will have about 5 more miles of gas once the bike is standing up.

I typically fill up regardless at 180-200 miles anyway.

Froggy,

Is that additional 5 miles calculated as 'Froggy' miles or 'Nelson' miles? : )

Your MPG is beyond that of us mere mortals. I typically fill up at 110 miles. Highway gets me 130-150 miles.

Although probably typical of other bikes that seems to be a sizable gap in fuel availability between standing up or on the leaning on the stand.

I've done 10 miles after having it stall on the sidestand, hence why I posted 5.

I have been stuck walking twice now by my CR because I did not stop soon enough after the low fuel light came on. It is not much of a warning at all .As soon as the light comes on you better be less than 20 miles from gas . I don't even wait on it anymore I just get gas every 100 miles weather I need it or not . Beats walking
