Has anyone here order or have installed them yet? Im waiting for mine still but I should have it any day now. My question is really about the inner air box being on or off. I ran my bike both ways. It seems to me that the bike runs better with the inner air box on. I have no way of getting any numbers. Im going by engine feel and from 80 to top speed roll on time. With the air box on it seems that the race to red line is much faster in 6th. When I read about how it was dyno they got the box off. Witch way to go inner air box on or off?

I'm tempted to order those stacks myself. I've run longer v-stacks on a '07 Yamaha FZ1 without any other intake mods, left the O2 sensor connected, and experienced quite an increase in midrange torque.
I would keep the inner air box cover on so you could take advantage of the functioning ram air along with possibly increasing your midrange torque.
The other question everyone will be asking is which ECM are you using?

I'd run the airbox on. Without the airbox in place, the ram air effect you get at speeds above 80mph is mitigated, which would really kill your top end pull.

Don't take my word from it, see this post for a quote from Anony:

Thanks for that link torqaholic! I had missed that one. I have the velocity stacks in my greedy little hands and will be running them on a dyno in October some time. There is no way on this dyno to pressurize the ram air system so I'm not expecting much gain at rest, but I think they might help some at speed!

Installed the stacks. I left the inner air box on. The bike is revving faster with the new stacks.

To get max power with the stacks, ECM needs new fuel/igition maps. When I dyno test the first prototype stacks the a/f ratio went too lean there where the stacks works. Still them made more torque.
I ride one month without inner air box and outer cover modified. The intake noise was painful and there was not so much difference in low end torque.
Now I have the inner box on again and stock outer cover + Fuel Solutions map for stock stacks and my bike has newer been so powerful as it is now. I´m waiting Dris to get finished the new map for the velocity stacks.

Joe, I understand the ram air effect at higher speeds through the traps but wondering about your 60 ft. times and your 1/2 track and 1000 ft times. Still best with the inner air box on?

Street riding with my inner off and vent at the front open I find it quicker accelerating with it off to about 100 mph.

And man, are you flying with that 1125. Congrats to you. Your ARE the man.

might be due to the heat of the fans blowing warm air in air box if you use it on the street with cover on to no cover cooler air . when i do i run i try to do it before the fans come on as you have a lower 60ft time i have done a lot of mods and testing to the air box with the help from mike1125r and for dragracing cover on works best for me have got my mg wheels now will post pics when on

I'm really getting interested in these stacks but I want to run the E_B_R ECM. Does anyone know if they are going to come out with map combinations for various pipes with these new stacks?

picked up a tenth on both 60' and ET by putting the inner back ON. This is after approx. 20 consistent passes with the inner REMOVED. It just plain works!

Bott - thanks for confirming. I am curious, how do your ET times compare with both inner cover on and off? If the positive airbox pressure without the cover on is absent, how much does this counteract the low-end performance gains in the overall ET?
