I decided to ceramic coat and then powder coat my entire frame. Will have pictures probably this tuesday. It will be interesting to see if alleviates the hot frame/boiling gas issue. Also my headers are being ceramic coated. And to top it all off, I will install the insulation kit. I'll post results later and will use my other stock 1125 to compare frame temps. |

i got the insulation from American Sport Bike, its great insulation! I was installing a new frame, so i put the insulation on it before i installed the frame. Use some rubbing alcohol to clean the inside of the frame or the insulation will not stick. here are some pics: (Message edited by dktechguy112 on September 20, 2010) |

Question on insulating the frame / coating the headers: Does doing this have any negative effect on the bike, or void the warranty? Initially I didn't think it could be a bad thing, but then I started thinking; "hey, the engine / headers still produce all that heat, where is it going?" |

Nice clean job on the insulation! I have a friend whose HD has several ceramic coated parts. The headers are ceramic coated you can touch them a few minutes after the engine stops. The heat is not absorbed by the ceramic coating it just passes by. Being a shovel head he had his oil filter cannister (uses cartridges similar to 1125) powder coated. These things usually get as hot as the oil. You can touch it a few minutes after the engine stops and get a warm sensation. In both cases the heat does not get through the ceramic coating. Cool stuff if you can do it, pun intended. :-) (Message edited by dannybuell on September 20, 2010) |
