I have my rear tire off to get a new one on and I was wondering what to use to clean the wheel.

I have a ton of break dust on the wheel and regular washes do nothing to it. It's almost like like the rim is peeling but when you touch it you can tell its not.

Any ideas what to use and where I can get it.

Thanks
Russ

http://www.westleys.com/

I've used it and it melts the brake dust right off. It's the best stuff I've ever used. Just be sure to wash it off really well with water after you're done. Keeping it on for a few minutes should do the trick.

There are a few threads on here about rim cleaners.

It seems our stock wheels are harder to clean that a wheel with a regular painted or smooth finish to them. They're powdercoated, correct? I've been trying to use Simple Green, both diluted and straight, with little to no effect. It gets most of the major particles off, but the finish is so porous that it really gets baked in there. No matter how well I clean it, the wheel still looks "dried out," if that makes sense.

Is there any harm in using regular 'ole generic carb cleaner on them? That should blast through anything on there, followed by a healthy scrub down using regular auto soap to clean of any cleaner left on.

I've tried Advance Auto's generic wheel cleaner, which smells pretty darn strong, to no avail.

Armour All Wheel Cleaner for me...works great. Just spray it on, let it sit and wash it off. And there you have it, Bobs your Uncle.

For those with unfinished aluminum wheels (PM) make sure you're using a pH neutral non ammonia cleaner. S1000 is one of these. Windex is too, as long as it isn't the "with ammonia-D" type. The manual specifies Mother's aluminum polish after washing. If your wheels are powder coated, I don't think there's much you can do to hurt them.

Bleche Wite cleaner

Wesley Bleche-Wite Whitewall/Blackwall Tire Cleaner is like magic cleaning color Buell rims. I tried soap/Simple Green and couldn't make a dent in the epoxy-like brake dust & road grime mixture.

Bleche Wite can be found anywhere for around $3.00. My beautiful gold rims were nearly black, and now they're gold again!!!

Catalan: Like I said man...I don't know why anyone would use anything other than Bleche Wite. It's cheaper and works better than literally everything else on the market without a doubt!

Swoop: That's very interesting. Makes perfect sense though! I may try that just for the hell of it.

K&N has a new cleaner out, we just got some.
I used S-100 wheel cleaner on Loretta's rear when I took the wheel in for a tire.

Sprayed it on then hit it with the low-pressure Hotsy. WOW!
Even the disk and fasteners were shiny again!

I bought a cleaner for our local oil foundry in Champaign, IL. and it works perfectly. Just spray it on...wait a few seconds...spray it with water and presto no elbow grease AT ALL. The only problem is that they sell it in 5 gallon drums and it runs about $75. I just put it in an old windex bottle. Can get some more information on it if anybody wants. A plus to it is it smells like oranges.

Sprayed Purple Power on the rear wheel and all the crud came off. I don't think I'd let it stay on for a long time though.
