I have read a number of times on different forums about the engine being rotated to remove the front spark plug, this is also the described method in the manual.

It is not necessary, i replaced mine today in about half an hour

Remove air box cover and all of the enclosure, remove the intake snorkel, this gives you just enough room to remove the front coil and gain access to the spark plug.

See video, all of 1 minute to remove the coil sorry about poor quality but it's all i had at the time, and i was on my own.

Nice! This is what we need more of. Tribal knowledge, learn how to do something quicker or easier and pass it on. Most every service manual I have ever had usually goes way overboard on disassembley for most repairs/maintenance. Thank you.

This is GREAT news. How many miles on those plugs? The 1125 looks rough on plugs. I might make those a 6k service item.

That's how I've done it the last 3 times.

I know I've discussed it on this forum before, but the search is so lame that it's not even worth looking for.

Thanks. I have changed the spark plugs (Denso Iradium racing IU01-27) today following your instructions.

One difficulty - taking out and inserting the coil is very difficult. The coil is longer than the clearance. So it has to be maneuvered certain way (like taking out the rear header without rotating the engine). Luckily the front part of the coil is made of rubber. The rubber part has to be bent.

Taking out was not bad in relation to inserting the coil, which was a real PITA. I end up sliding the coil in from the right side (there is a bit of indent) so that the coil is at about 2 o'clock position (front being the 12 position) and then sliding the coil across from 2pm position to 10am position (rotating counter clockwise). That seems to do the trick. The portion (rounded) where the bolt goes through (opposite the wire side) has to be positioned toward the frame wall.
It wasn't easy. Found it much more difficult than removing the rear header w/o rotating the engine.

I wish your video would have shown how you actually maneuvered the coil to take it out.

I would submit that the stock plug would work better than that Iridium Denso. The reason is that the stock plug has two electrodes which take up more combustion chamber space. Using a plug with one will effectively decrease compression ratio.

I stick with what Erik and crew decided was best.
