Have one. Rock on Fantastic sound! had 3 people in cages give me the thumbs up so far, and no bikers have had anything bad to say... Only complaint is from my neighbour, who feels it's his job to annoy everyone else in the neighborhood... Apparently he doesn't like being woken up between 7:16 and 7:18 in the mornings. I say "close your windows." Just love the deep throated growl... You want loud? try a D&D - honestly, it seems like they're almost twice the volume. |

I am accustomed to the sound of mine now, but I remember thinking it was too loud at first. |

I say "close your windows." Sounds like you are doing your share of annoying the neighborhood as well. I would be pissed too if someone fired up a loud bike at that time. What makes you think your right to make alot of noise supersedes his right to keep his windows open at night? You are creating noise pollution and being a general ass IMO. I would bet there are other neighbors who feel the same way as the guy making his feelings known. } |

I ran one for several thousand miles. Initial BANG at start up is pretty startling the first time around. Doesn't seem loud until you are motoring through a small town at 20 MPH. Then it seems embarrassingly loud. Up angle of tip makes it much louder than say a Barker on fly by. Overall seemed to rob torque in exchange for a better zip up to redline. It was the best "bang" for the buck until the Barker came out. I went Barker as soon as I could afford it and am much happier with the mellow tone, stronger low end, and option to run 3 different quiet cores. The HMF was also a lot more of a PITA to put on...had to loosen the front header to get the pipe one and it was still like putting on a tight shoe. I think it's a good pipe if you want your bike to sound like a helicopter strafing terrorists. |

} You are creating noise pollution and being a general ass IMO. Wow... personal attacks... impressive... methinks that somebody with loud pipes has pee'd in your cornflakes? A little clarification is in order here. Neighbour complains about noise when I fire up to go to work at 7:18am. I ask him what time his alarm is set for - 7:25am every odd week, 6:50am every even week. He's compaining about 7 minutes?!? eesh. Why the difference in alarm times? He's got his kids the early weeks and has to get up in time to get them to school for 8:30am. Have I ever complained about the racket his kids make - banging on walls (I have a town house, so we share a common wall), screaming when playing, Barney music, etc etc - not once.. Why? They're kids doing kid stuff. Couldn't care less. I even mow his side of the front yard when I'm doing mine 'cause it looks stupid with one side long and the other short. Ever get thanks in the 2 years he's lived there? Not once. More back story - complainer has the nerve to go to the neighbour on the other side to whine about his music being too loud - when the music of from an old ghetto blaster (at about 1/3 volume) in a garage while a car is being worked on, at 4:00 on a Friday afternoon. There are 2 Harleys on my street as well, which tend to leave closer to 7am, and make more noise than my Buell does. I would bet there are other neighbors who feel the same way as the guy making his feelings known. NOBODY in my neighbourhood has complained about my bike making too much noise except for my neighbour. If I'm coming home late at night (any time after 10pm), I have the courtesy to turn my engine off about a block from home and coast my way in. *IF* any other of my neighbours complained, I would very much consider doing something about the noise. As it is, I start it, close my garage door, put on my gloves and go (helmet/boots/jacket are on before I start it up) at pretty much idle speed 'cause it hasn't had a chance to warm up properly. No throttle cranking etc. So, Mr. Fresnobuell, before launching a nasty personal attack that has made BadWeb so famous, I would suggest you ask for back story, or a clarification on the issue. } |

I've heard the HMFs and they sound great to me, but beauty (of sounds too) is truly in the eye of the beholder. My un-silenced FMF is also very loud and when leaving my neighborhood I short-shift and try not to keep the thottle under load as that's when it's the loudest. Like you, I switch off early and coast into my driveway if it's late in order to be considerate. On the other hand, when someone cuts me off in traffic, I love getting right next to the driver's side (window down with any luck) and bouncing off the rev-limiter a couple times with the right-side exit pointed right at them, exposing them to the full sonorous Rotax serenade of 107dB at 3 feet. The point is to modulate the sound according to the situation at hand. |

I run the HMF muffler myself, and do have to admit it's a little loud for my tastes, especially starting and idling, but everywhere else it's like music to my ears. I have a few neighbors with crappy running Harleys that sound like they run, so I don't worry about anyone complaining about my sweet sounding motorcycles. |

So, Mr. Fresnobuell, before launching a nasty personal attack that has made BadWeb so famous, I would suggest you ask for back story, or a clarification on the issue. Nasty personal attack? Skin a little thin today? Really tho. I think your tit for tat with your neighbor is pretty childish, but I guess it's a reality when you live so close to others. It maybe only seven minutes to you, but being awoken by the crack of the HMF muffled Rotax would not be welcomed by anyone--especially someone who doesn't have an affinity for motorcycles (which is basically everyone.) |

FresnoBuell - when you have too many rats in a box they start chewing on each other. Bigevildoer - I too live in a condo and my neighbors have told me that they love the fact that I shut down and coast on my way in. No comment from them about on my way out. :-) |

My guess is that when your trying to start, it might not catch on the first squirt of fuel, but catches on the second so there might be a little bit left from the previous cycle |

I had the HMF loved the sound but it is too loud for most riders in street use. I also found that fitting the standard silencer back on improved the way the bike ran, the HMF does need a proper tune to get the most from it, it is loud, but does sound good. |

I put an HMF on my CR almost immediately after buying the bike. It has a good sound, but WAY too loud IMO. So much so, that I have only put 50 miles on the bike since putting on the HMF. Unless I find another slip-on that has good reviews but isn't so loud, I will be putting the OEM can back on. Oh, I also checked the HMF on my CR with a decent ($100) new dB meter and it registers 98dB AT IDLE (approx 36 inches away, 45 degree angle). Bottom line: I like the sound but considerate of others to the point that I must remove the HMF. |

I think it's a good pipe if you want your bike to sound like a helicopter strafing terrorists. That's the part I like best, especially with the fast idle. Rick |

on American Sport Bike there is a shoot out for the exhaust and has a sound clip for the FMF with a fly by and a rev. |

I have one and its quieter than the 2-1 Vance and Hines on the softtail, and much quieter than the Bubs 2-2 pipes on the xr1200. Its a good looking and nice sounding pipe and it really tranforms the 1125 with the Erik Buell Racing chip. |

I agree completely...I don't find it overly loud at all. I've ridden by numerous LEO's...they didn't even put down their doughnut. The stocker is fugly to say the least... |

Wow! Some really differing opinions here. I love my HMF on my 2009 CR and it sure beats the ticking sound of the OEM pipe. I have a 2002 X1 with a Vance Hines. Great sounding can, but the HMF is better coupled with the Erik Buell Racing chip. Yeah, the start up bang is a little annoying, but overall it's a great deal price wise and looks great also. The smoothness of the engine is what really impressed me. No dead spots at all along the rpm range. I would like to try other setups in the future though not because of lack of liking my current setup! For those of you that think it's too loud, go buy a rice burner. C'mon boys it is an American ride!!!! Just chill til you get out of the neighborhood and coast back into your driveway just like Jng1226 said!!! Loud pipes not only save lives, they belong on a motorcycle! We aren't driving a Prius!
