first off let me say that I am no big mechanic, Im only 22 and fix what I can by reading it out of a book, website (badweb) and video, so if there is any way that removing this or anything that I did in the steps could make taking the cover off easier, please post your input in this thread. I wanted to maintain good quality of the photos so they are in photobucket tho I will work on getting the same ones posted on here but im sure due to the file size restrictions they probably wont be as big. hope this helps here is the link to the photos: http://s739.photobucket.com/albums/xx39/ultimo_justin/Step%20by%20Step%20guide%20to%20remove%20Ignition%20Cover%201125R/

Justin, EXCELLENT POST detailing the process and saving the rest of us time and angst. I give you +10 bad web community points to be spent however you'd like. Thanks. |

Great job. BTW if you do not have to replace the stator, you can get enough slack to remove the cover without pulling the pins in the connector. |

Great pics ... thanks! Let us know what Custom Rewind has to say about the coloring. |

I did get the FH0012 regulator to fit in the original location with one nut holding it in place. It is a tight fit and you have to re-route some wires to get it in there or even get the old one out. But this location has a vent that cooled the original regulator. |

so... what were you actually fixing here or was it because of the leak?? apparently i missed something? because the main thing i noticed you do is relocate the vr for some reason? i havent had any issues with my 1125's except the clutch weep on the 08 so i end up skipping over alot of threads about fixing problems that ive had no use for... |

Those of you running a Mosfet regulator, did you remove the upgrade harness? I am contemplating removing mine if I swap regulators. |

I took the extra wiring off that went to the relay. Saved alot of space under the seat. |

Justin, Thanks so much for documenting this procedure for us. I've read about this in the manual many times, but your presentation makes it so much clearer. Froggy, Please put this excellent presentation someplace where it is easy to get to. (Message edited by milt on August 27, 2010) |

havent heard from custom rewind yet, the whole i took my cover off again was because of a rattling noise i heard and thought it was the rotor nut but I was wrong, it was my 3 stator bolts, each one was very loose, my fault for not putting loctite on them, in either case, I am now currently waiting on a gasket and a word from custom rewind about the stator coloring. I did remove the harness upgrade when I put on the FH012 Regulator on. |

so you guys are replacing the regulator with something else? and thats why its being relocated? i havent even done the update for the charging on my cr simply because, well, i just havent. havent decided if i want to. although i do have the parts sitting here for it. im always up for learning something new, especially if its useful knowledge to keep track of down the road. |

This is well documented and well put together. But it is totally useless without an explanation as to what you are trying to accomplish. Even looking at the Stator topic linked by Dannybuell, I cannot get my head around what is going on. I am not trying to be an ass and am grateful for the willingness to share information. I'm just a little lost. |

This is a simple explanation on how to replace your stator. The original poster's stator died and he had it rewound by a third party. He's also showing how to wire up a different voltage regulator. Some people think the stock voltage regulator maybe part of the problem that results in early stator failure. |

For what it may be worth...if you are going to go to this much effort....put the regulator into a real air stream area. It NEEDS cooling to work correctly. After putting a small fan on my stock regulator, stock location. In the HOT (97degree and ambient air), stoplight sitting, the voltage is much more consistant than before I installed the fan. Much like the XB's are.... Mike P.s. - good work Justin (Message edited by 1_mike on August 27, 2010) |

1_mike, would you post up some pics of the fan you added, and how you wired it into the bike? |

Ultimo_Justin - nice, very nice work! 1_Mike - Placing the regulator in the airstream seems like a good idea. (Message edited by dannybuell on August 27, 2010) |

Good work! I didn't think you could get the cover of without pulling the lower oil cooler line. Looks like you made it work. I expect this post is going to get a lot of interest when the warranties start to expire...and a lot fewer "why you did that?" comments. Please update with the response from Custom Rewind. I'm very interested to hear if that is just normal discoloration from soaking in hot oil. |

I've been looking at pictures of USED STATORS on eBay from all kinds of motorcycles and ATV's ... None of the come even close to looking as burnt up as that one ... and that is your low mile NEW custom rewind!! This issue must have nothing to do with the stator at all ... but instead with an inefficient cooling design. (Message edited by dmhines on September 02, 2010) |

Ive called custom rewind 3 different times on 3 different days, i left 2 voice mails and still havent heard a thing or gotten back to. Im beginning to wonder if he is still in business...either way, im going to assume that its that color due to the hot oil it sat in, before i removed my stator my volts were looking great so im gonna put it back in as is and keep riding. although I do also have to agree that it very is highly possible that by seeing what my stator looks like that there really is a design flaw when it comes to cool the stator. |

Ultimo_Justin - Could you see the oil supply and return passages when you took it apart? The HD-Rotax learning curve starts with the Helicon transmission oil jet issue and the stator. The transmission they had to fix life or death. The stator resolution is bean counting at it's best. The garage queens will never find out until it's too late, their warranty will have run out. The bean counters are hoping the rider mileage rates are low, very low. |

Danny...I really didnt bother to look and see the passages. Ill be sure to check that out tomorrow |
