Well my dad has a friend that goes to MMI and is going through the buell program right now, and he informed me that there is a NEW belt in the works to replace the old one. Apparently the current belt is not up to the task of the 1125 (suprise lol) and is not designed to be bent and put under the tension that the idler pulley puts on it and is what causes the belts to break frequently (im on 3) so there is a type of heavy duty serpentine belt in the works.... just passin on the info...anyone else here bout this?? I have not heard about that. I think if Harley is doing any R & D is being done on buells it should be on the stator problem. |

I ride pretty hard, wheelie often, and don't have belt guards on and I'm just under 19,000 miles with my original. Do they break a lot? |

I ride pretty hard myself and as of yet, no problems and I have over 9000 mile on her right now. Though, I don't do wheelies (well, on purpose anyway) |

That's odd.. I'd be surprised if HD were doing any development work for Buells - why would they? I'm not saying it's not happening, just that it seems a bit odd. I also thing belt failures are pretty infrequent, certainly anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that - mine's like new and I ride lile a complete tit! It's holding up better than a chain would have at this mileage. |

I'd have to guess that's pretty outdated information. It would have been accurate circa 2007, as a new belt technology DID come out around the time of the 1125r. |

Absolute BS. The belt was completely designed to be used in a serpentine manner, definitely can handle the power, and absolutely is designed for the tension. In fact the belt manufacturer dictated the tension. |

What's the theoretical limit for HP on the belt, ie; how much is too much before it will snap? |

There doesn't seem to be any issue with belts and it also seems like any belts problems are isolated with certain people, which points to the user. If HD is going to ignore the stators, do you really think they are going to plunge money towards a non-issue? DOn't think so. |

Can't be bent???? I'm in trouble.
I'm riding THAT belt, got over 7k miles on it so far. My current spare is a belt I burnt .110" off the back with a frozen idler that lives in the same place under my seat. Hope it works if I ever need it. Zack BTW - that belt lived under my seat from March to May of 2009 IIRC, 2 months, then I put it on Loretta. It was sent from Buell thru Court as a test - passing with Flying Colors so far. (Message edited by zac4mac on September 04, 2010) |

The information is accurate. The belt has gone through some improvements over the years and is fully up to snuff for all intended purposes. In addition . . . HD has much more to worry about at present. |

In addition . . . HD has much more to worry about at present. Yeah, like getting wage concessions from the rank and file by threatening to move operations out of Milwaukee. On the week before labor day too. |

They got the wage concessions and more. Unions have become a laughing stock to HD execs. They may not say it publicly but they have them in a position where they can get anything they want. |

...even more so now with non-union Buell gone! |

Non-union Buell was inconsequential. Harley has 5x as many folks in motor clothes than Buell had employees. The union employees COULD have learned something from Buell. They didn't and are now voiceless serfs to Wandell. They'll do whatever they are told to do. |
