Jjr1125 - You have less than two months to get an extended warranty. |

I actually priced buying an extended warranty. Even though they were offering a good deal, it was still very expensive. I called them today and guess what, the stator is back-ordered. They told me it was only backordered until September 7th. I am praying they are right. No mention of a new regulator or battery. |

as long as its in the shop there should be no reason that you should have to pay for a warranty issue even if you run out of warranty while its in there shop |

When you pay for this repair out of pocket, its going to cost you $500-1,000 depending on what died!!! 5 year extended warranty $1,250, with the problems these bikes have had/having its cheap. Plus it covers a rental. AND the rest of the bike! Buell regulator $135, Buell stator $679.55, Buell rotor $737. Do the math and its plus labor. Pm me I'll get you in touch with the right person to get this price. I make nothing on this. (Message edited by usanigel on September 03, 2010) |

What components are replaced, are determined by a "trouble tree" set of tests. Check A. Bad? Replace and retest. Good? Move to next. Check B. Bad? replace and retest. Good? move to next. and so on. |

Out of desire to understand the difference of the parts replaced by everyone that had the stator issue, what has been the symptom for why the bikes have been brought in to get fixed? Does anyone know what was wrong with the stators that have been replaced which had the relay kit installed, was it winding resistance check for open winding, a shorted winding, or just A/C voltage check? I have an 08 with the new stator and relay kit, and I'd like to understand what to look for and how it has been diagnosed... |

Fuego, My bike was fine for 5,000 miles. I took it in for the wiring harness recall. 500 miles later, I started getting intermittant engine lights which was followed by the battery light and eventually a little charging light indicator. The voltage kept dropping as I rode. At one point, it was down below 11 volts. I cleaned the terminals and checked for loose wires. I charged the battery back up so it was sitting at 12.4 volts. As soon as I went for a ride we repeated all the symptoms. At this point they are telling me the stator needs to be replaced and we are waiting for parts. My guess is they will put the stator in and see how the battery and rotor perform. It is still warrantied so I am letting them choose the medicine. If I had my choice it would be a new stator and rotor (from Erik Buell Racing). I probably would put a new battery in as well just to make certain the gremlins are all gone. The dealership has been good so far, so I have to trust their judgement. |

Mine just had the stator, flywheel, voltage regulator and battery replaced under warranty. Why the flywheel, I have no idea, they just told me "it was a mess" |

Thank you for the feedback, interesting... I guess that it would be nice to know if the dealerships performed the health checks on the stator per the manual, and found a problem based on those checks, or they hit it with the big hammer wanting to fix the problem based on suspect parts from experience. Good to hear that they are being responsive though. Does anyone know what specifically has been the problem with a stator that is replaced after it has been installed new with the relay kit in place? As I get a better feel for the symptoms, and hear about the parts replaced, and different or alternative parts tried, I can't but help to wonder what's the real root cause of the problems experienced - and why so far my bike, and others, have been fine. |

I'm still convinced mine (09 CR) is OK because I **REV** IT. Seriously. Ride it like you stole it. EVERY TIME. Keep the RPMs high, keep that oil circulating and cooling the stator. So far, it's been working on mine! (and it's so much FUN!!!!) |
