Rolling Thunder (RT) Type 2 Custom SS Race exhaust/dual outlet I am in the market to get an exhaust but there are very few that I like esthetically however, this is one that I do like the looks of. What I want to know is, is it louder than a Harley Screaming Eagle or is it loud but not that loud? Does it tarnish quickly or does it maintain its finish? Is the performance noticeable? I don't race but I am tired of bot being heard on the roadway/freeway and I don't like the vast majority of the exhausts that are out there and the few that I do like are pretty damn expensive like the Free Spirits Exhaust RS-415 Race. This one here (Rolling Thunder (RT)) is pretty reasonable in the price range. Thanks all for your input. |

Read the American Sport Bike exhaust shootout. All aftermarket pipes for the 1125R are freaking loud. Happy RT1 owner here. |

Yeah, they're loud, but not "that loud" although I would recommend ear plugs regardless of which pipe you put on. It's 304 stainless, so if you leave it raw, yes, it will discolor and be dull looking rather quickly. Even if it's polished, it will turn colors, it's the nature of stainless steel. Full polished or ceramic coated will look nice and be easy to clean. I don't know how durable the ceramic coating is though, I've never done it myself. Polished, just wipe it down while it's cold, maybe hit it with a cleaner/polish occasionally. The pics of the 2 systems I sent in for the shootout had 3500 miles between them, only one was fully polished, neither really got more than wiped off before I sent them in for the test. Both were abused pretty hard, numerous dyno runs on each one and some pretty hard street miles. Performance, yes, you'll feel it, especially with the race ecm. 17+ hp is over a 10% gain, so you'll feel it via your SOTP dyno. You'll also be heard quite clearly. |

Dean is a pipe-master. You can't go wrong with one of his hand wrought creations. |

I have one and yes it is loud, louder than any XB with a drummer and louder than the X1 I had with a supertrap. BUT the gain in power is great and the quality is number one. You will not find a nicer pipe |

Very happy RT-1 customer here. The pipe is definitely loud but definitely worth the money! |

Wow, thanks for all of the feed back. D adams, I had a Harley Road Glide with the Screaming Eagle Pipes that were pretty loud but not loud enough to wake the neighbors at 6am. If I throttle it easy in the morning to get out of the neighborhood, will the pipes be a nuisance or will they be tolerable? I love the throaty sound of your pipes from what I can tell from the online clip but its always different in person. |

I have a RT-3, the build quality is awesome...the sound is amazing but the RT-3 is LOUD! ear plugs for long trips are a must for this bad boy. The power delivery is great too. If I did it again I would get the RT-1 with a slashed tip like the RT-3. |

I just put the RT-4 on a few weeks ago. The pipe is raw, no polish or coating. It is loud but sounds awesome and makes a ton of power with the ECM. Your welcome to come check out the pipe, I work about an hour south of you in Escondido. Let me know if you want to meet up for lunch and go for a quick ride to hear the pipe.

Yeah, I would enjoy the opportunity to listen to your exhaust. I sent you an email so, let me know. Thanks, Paul. |

I just put my fully polished RT-3 on tonight. About 9:30 pm I took it for a test ride, and it sounds awesome. I dont think I'll be starting it up on the weekend before 0800 hours, because the neighbors probably wont hear it as sweet music to their ears, like I do. This Beaaaach is thump'n loud. |

I did about 160 miles yesterday with my newly installed RT-3. The bike ran great, and the pipe is downright nasty sounding (in a good way). People definately know you are there. |

Yep, I am salivating! I want to grab the RT-4 but I need to hear how it sounds before I go ahead and purchase it. While I want an exhaust that will grab your attention, I don't want to do it at my neighbor's expense at 6am. Once I get the chance to hear it and really all I want to know is, if I throttle the bike real nice and easy jut to get out of the neighborhood, will it still be obnoxiously loud or will it be acceptable at low RPMs? |

Greg, if you don't already have one, get a race ECM from Erik Buell Racing. |

Paul -- It's not obnoxious loud like a HD with drag pipes. Yeah, it is loud, but from 20-30 feet away, it's really pretty mellow. Idling out of the subdivision is tolerable. I've got some older neighbors and I've made it a point to ask about how loud it sounds to them. No complaints at all, even from the lady right next to my garage. I get in at midnight and my garage is maybe 15 feet from her house. I don't rev the engine when I get in, but I don't coast in either. Its running all the way up to the door. |

Yeah D adams, I do need to look into the ECM. I was also told that there is a sensor or modual of some sort, that can be disconected since I changed the exhaust. Anyone know anything about that? Father on an era,I cant speak about RT4, but if its anywhere close to as loud as the RT-3, you may not want to be starting it in the early morning around houses. Tha guy I rode with yesterday, asked me to ride behind him and on the right side..lol |

Horseraddish. But yea, all aftermarket pipes including Dean's are fraking loud. I do not ride down my road with the engine on anymore with my RT-1'ed CR. |

Thinking my RT 3 might be a track day only pipe unless Dean comes up with some sort of quiet core deal. My buddies thought it was cool loud at first but it does annoy them after a while. With that being said though, I don't have a E_B_R ecm either and I heard that that quiets it down slightly... |

I would take random rides at any hour of the day or night when I lived in S FL. 1 AM just fire up the X-1 with race exhaust and blast off for South Beach. Roll down the side streets, the 1203 barely ticking over, car alarms going off right and left. Get home about 3 AM. What's the problem? There were bikes louder than me all over the place anyway...at least mine sounded good |

Xodot - You are probably right! LOL One of my buddies has a '96 S1 with Vance & Hines and the other has a '05 SV 650 with a Micron and when all of our bikes were running you couldn't hear their bikes over mine. Now with that being said, I was out last night with my buddy with the S1. I had my stock pipe back on and our bikes were about equally loud...his maybe a bit louder. At idle we were the same. |

Did Erik Buell Racing ever make an ECU tuned for the RT's? If not, which ECU are you guys running with them? I have the HMF pipe and really want the ECU but would like to swap the pipe over to the RT-4 later on. |

I haven't looked at the map, but I'd bet it will run lean with the HMF map. They can reflash it later with the correct map once it's done. The standard race ecm will work fine also, that's the map I have in mine right now. |
