Got my bike back from dealer last week, long story but they never fitted the water pump it was in for and have now lost there franchise too (nothing to do with me)so i cant go back there and my bike is out of warranty now. I think they left the bike on idle for a long time and have possibly fouled up the plugs. Since i have had the bike back it is definatly down on power and when under load the engine is holding back, kinda a slight miss and surging. Does this sound plug related ? there is no management light on. |

Go for a ride where you can pull WOT safely, preferably uphill. Do that until your smile returns. I find that after wringing her little neck she's much smoother and more responsive. Also called the Italian Tune Up Blow out the carbon deposits with some good old American Horsepower. |

Always do, it's struggling to pull above 130, used to do that with ease, had a straight line drag from 3rd gear about 50mph with my friends R6 and didn't even pull past him |

Have you checked the basics? AFVs and do a TPS reset then check the values.. If the had the airbox off then maybe that hose on the right is stopping the throttle from fully opening (it slips down).. |

Go into diagnostics mode and see if the throttle percentage moves from 2%-100%. First try rolling it slowly open, then wack it open the second time. Look for any hesitations, or possibly getting stopping at like 80% |

Perform the plug un-fouling startup procedure* a few times every so often while you're out riding. Should clear it out eventually. Or just replace the plugs. I had the same thing happen on a trip to/through Death Valley. Rode all the way down there (from near Seattle) on the highway between 3-5k RPM. The morning we were supposed to go through Death Valley, my bike was running like SHIT (exactly as you describe). I must have done the plug un-fouling procedure a dozen times and blasted up and down a straight section at 140mph a few times but still didn't clear up. Started to head for Las Vegas to get it checked out somewhere and a few miles down the road it suddenly started running PERFECT; better than EVER. So I high-tailed it back to the group and had no problems afterward. * If memory serves, you simply put the red run switch in the ON position, fully open the throttle, and turn the key to on. If you did it right, you should hear a different electronic sound than usual during startup. Don't crank the bike with the throttle WOT. You can leave the throttle pinned and turn the key on for about 10 seconds and off again a few times if desired. (Message edited by chameleon on August 30, 2010) |

Thanks chameleon, I'll give that a go once I'm back from the states, it's not the hose stopping the throttle, it's not tps, it's not afv as I also have ebr ECM, this is something new, I'm fairly handy with a spanner being a tech for many years now. |

Will also check what the tps does when I whack it open, only checked it whilst opening gently. Thanks Froggy |

Here's something Froggy posted a while back: SPARK PLUG CLEANING PROCEDURE 2008 XB and 1125R - has the ability to clear residual fuel from the combustion chamber if a flooded engine or fouled spark plugs are suspected. This is achieved by opening the throttle to wide open, setting the Run/Stop switch to Run then, turning the ignition switch ON. This will fire the spark plugs for approximately 4 seconds, burning any fuel left over in the combustion chamber. It may be necessary to repeat this procedure several times to allow a severely flooded engine to start. NOTE: Motorcycle should be in Neutral. |
