Has anyone monitored battery voltages on a Triumph/Aprilla/Ducati as carefully as we've been watching them? Since I had my stator replaced, I've been watching my voltage carefully. The more I watch, the less fun it is to ride. 14.1. OMG it's down to 13.3. Whew, coming back up to 13.9. I'm going to just ride and enjoy it. If the bike dies, so be it.

Milt: It sucks. As soon as the bike is warmed up and I'm ready to take off I flip it to the voltage/CT screen and leave it. Before all this started I didn't have a care in the world or a second thought about jumping on and heading out to the middle of nowhere. That's how I got 28,000 miles in a little over 2 years. But recently my bikes have been in the shop more than on the road. I've been looking at KTM dukes and Triumph Speed Triples. With no research or fixes going into this issue, I don't want this headache for 5 more years. |

Many years ago, my girlfriend had a bout with hypochondria. The best advice she got was from a 75 year old MD who advised: "Stay away from doctors!". I'm not sure what, if anything, this has to do with stators, but it's a good story anyway. |

Guys can somebody knowledgeable (maybe Ultimo_Justin,..since he did it already), post a breakdown, detailed info about rewinding the stator etc, so the rest of us who are more mechanically challenged can fix our bikes too ? im not waiting for HD, i want to ride my bike. |

Some of you guys may want to check out the following thread... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/587394.html?1282582456 Many of you might find it a good read... start from the beginning and then decide for yourself what should be done about this stator\ charging issue |

Rewinding the stator is NOT a DIY job, it's a specialist area. Removing your stator and posting it to them and then refitting it is about all you should do for yourself... |

Thanks Baggh,..i have been keeping an eye on it,..i might have to give it a good read from the top. Either way Ultimo_Justin's post here has been the most detailed i have seen yet. In the thread you mention,..i read on the latest page "You should be able to specify the desired power output"... thats why i wanted to make this post to actually get the details,....: what output should i be specifying ? etc. If somebody has done the work correctly then it would be Great if they posted sort of a step by step. |

Question for you all. I was reading in XR1200 forum they are having issues with the gas tank covers and HD just seems to be replacing and not doing R&D to solve and.. someone posted the following question/statment an issue that remained unresolved during warranty period is still a warranty item even after the warranty expires? Anyone having any knowledge on this? |

They replace the stator = resolved for all legal purposes. |

Same can be said about the XB mufflers. They rust excessively fast. Many will get a new muff under warranty, then get it coated before it is installed to prevent it from rusting. We were always hoping that 2011 would of been the magic year of stainless mufflers, oh well. |

They replace the stator = resolved for all legal purposes. Yes if that fixed the issue however it appears people are going through multiple stators and there is no perm fix. I have no issues at all so just curious on the opinions of others. IMO - if i have had more then 1 stator in bike and have done that HD has asked then id say its not a fix. Think id be fighting the next one done off warranty. |

mine failed about 500 miles after the harness update. luckily i made back before she went completely dead. sad part is i wont be able to ride it to Indy GP unless my dealer has a miracle stator on hand. |

At the Cafe desmo event last weekend, I asked Mr. Buell about the stator issue. He said to his knowledge if the stator was replaced at the same time as the harness,it should be fixed. His opinion was that the stators were probably in various states of being gone, so if the harness was only replaced that the stator would eventually fail from being over heated from the original harness. So both should be replaced at the same time. Has anyone done this, and if so how is the bike doing? |

Hello all, ive done 500 miles on my rewound stator with the mosfet FH012 voltage regulator and new battery along with the harness removed and so far its been running better than the day i got it, no joke, i swear if it wasnt for the HID high beams on at idle the volts would never go down. but aside from that, i seem to have developed a rattling noise in the engine, done some searching on here and i believe it is the stator (rotor) nut that is coming loose, when i take my stator cover off I will post pics of what my stator looks like (im curious to see how its holding up visually) and of the stator nut so others can benefit |

Highlander51, My stator was replaced at the same time as the first harness went on after burnout of the original stator. The VR was also replaced "just in case" the service manager said. All of this was under warranty and it was in the shop for 10 days. The volts are constantly moving around but nothing lower than 13.5V after 900mi so far. Watching the volt meter constantly sucks and I have to be extra aware of having enough space in traffic this time of year because of that. I really don't want to tell the judge that I ran into the back of that car while watching the volt meter! |

It will be interesting to see how this scenario of replacing both at the same time plays out. |

Someone on here had the harness installed from day one and the stator still failed. Replaced = fixed to HD legal team, so you'd have a hell of a time getting it warrantied after the warranty period. They probably consider it a wear item. I've replaced two alternators on my cars, these things are not lifetime parts. |

I know i don't have a lot of miles, 5500 on original stator. mine had all the updates done before i bought it. I haven't actually had to take it in for any warranty work. (knock on wood) I know if it does fail it'll be sent to be rewound. |

So can anybody post some specifics on the rewinding? What to keep in mind what to tell the guys that will rewind it,..or they will just know what to do ? |

See http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/588255.html?1281991477 Justin outlines everything he's done, where he sent his stator, etc. I think he had it rewound to the 2010 specification, but you'll have to double check with him. |

when I sent my stator to Custom Rewind I told him what the specs were of the stator which was 520W 14V. he didnt say if I wanted it higher or lower or anything like that so I assume he kept it the same. when I take my cover off on thursday ill take pics of everything I do to remove the cover step by step and pics of what my rewound stator looks like after 500 miles of use. at this time I would not call this a permanant fix yet due to the fact I have so little miles on the charging system and it doesnt help my cause being as i gotta take the cover off and tighten the Rotor nut or whatever else is loose. although I will say as i did before that the charging system really does work better than the day I got it. as I posted up before, $125.00 rewound stator from Custom Rewind $114.oo for the FH012 Mosfet Regulator http://roadstercycle.com/Universal%20Mosfet%20FH01 2AA%20charging%20system%20upgrade.htm $26.00 for the Regulator Connectors http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__Products/C onnectors/R_R_Connectors/r_r_connectors.html and finally...$$$ for whatever new battery of your chosing. the one i got was $80 so in total I paid $345.00 (not including shipping for sending the stator to get rewound) for a new charging system. |

I had my stator fail 2 weeks ago, luckily replaced within 2 days. This is good info for when it's out of warranty. Thanks for the info man! |
