Alright well it seems like electrical issues have been the talk of the past few months. I thought I was lucky and got off scotch free...Until I swapped out to an Erik Buell Racing ECM. For some reason 3 days after swapping ECMs I occasionally get the battery light on. At first I was like eh, no big deal. Lately though my battery seems to only get charged to around 13.2v, stays around 12.4-13.0 riding around, and dips to 11.9-12.1 anytime I stop. I haven't had any issues starting the bike ever, and it seems after sitting all night that the battery voltage jumps up .5v or so. Also riding above 5k RPMs doesn't change anything really either.

So questions: What exactly is wrong with it? Should I just keep riding it 'till it dies on me?

More info on the bike: 2009 CR, 2010 engine, Erik Buell Racing Race ECM, harness upgrade.

you better get a stator,3 bolts, and a gasket for the stator cover ,you need them replaced and whether you know it or not it is already cooked by the time you get the symptoms you describe, sorry,I have had mine replaced twice now....

So looks like I need to swap out my ECM and head over to the dealer huh...

I believe your symptoms may simply be due to the harness upgrade, although higher revs should make your battery happy for at least a little while.

I went from a perfectly good charging system to one with many battery lights (especially in the city) simply due to the harness. I guess the harness is doing its job. However, when riding her like she's intended to be ridden (in the foothill twisties for those who couldn't guess) the charging systems gets happy again. I feel lucky this type of riding is the primary purpose for my R these days. I have come to the conclusion commuting on a bike sucks.

Nah, commuting on any bike sucks. Droning for miles (and that's if you are lucky enough to be doing the speed limit,) avoiding cagers who are late for work and at the same time squaring off your tires....

Not saying I never ride to work, but I am opting for my air-conditioned, Sirius equipped 4-wheel ride more and more.

I'll never commute by a gas guzzling car again, but thats me.

Westmoorenerd, sounds like your stator is on the way out.

It should get to high 13's, low 14's at highway speeds. That assumes only low beam and no other electrical accessories.

I still enjoy the ride when its not raining. Only about 30 minutes each way but still puts a smile on..

I'm over commuting on the bike. It's hot, there's no AC, it makes your nice clothes stink, and so on. It just ain't all that.

The track and Arkansas ruined the novelty of just being on a motorcycle for me. Now, I've either got to be balls out on the track or in the deep canyons with buddies to really enjoy being on a bike.

It's not fun looking out for some mom talking on the phone swatting at her kids and not paying attention anymore.

Rode the XB in to work today (45 mi. each way) mostly freeway, sunny, 90, light traffic . . at 85 plus in 4th, the bike was diggin' it (staying cool in full gear was easy, too). I was too, even though I'm getting spoiled on canyons and track time, and that's a good thing in my book.

I seldom use the 1125 for the trip, because it's real easy to tack another 15 mph on to days like today...

I will use my bike for dialy errands again when I get a bike that doesn't make me sweat my balls off. It used to be fun...

I agree Boogiman. I always took any excuse for a ride. My old Katana is waiting for me to reinstall the carbs and fairings, and I think that will be my daily rider until I pay off the 1125 and can buy a fun standard like a Monster or Z1000 for a daily rider.

I am not planning on replacing the Buell yet, but it will be a garage queen except for track duty and cool days.

Hey west, if you got the ecm used then it is likely the problem not the stator, though every mile ran on the stator with the ecm not programmed for the harness upgrade causes excessive damage to the stator. This happened to me, put the factory ecm back on and all was good until 2 nights ago when my charging system failed. Ran the race ecm for about 400 miles, lights came on, swapped it back in and here I am 4-5k later and fail. Anyway, its easy to get the ecm reflashed just send 35 to ebr and they can set it up however you want, I am waiting til i have the money for an exhaust to send mine in.
