Took a 40 mile squirt around the backroads and I can't tell much about the aero yet. Yes I can tuck under the screen, but the buffetting during non tuck is right at my helmet. Before it was at my chest. I'll need more seat time to tell if I made a good decision on such a bulbous shield.
If you decide you didn't, I'm pretty happy with the next size down (the Double Bubble). Of course, I would have expected the ST to provide more, not less, protection --- and if you don't get the performance you want from the ST you might absolutely HATE the DB.
Has anybody tried the Corsa model? and if so, can we see some pics?
I was thinking about the Corsa. I've looked at pictures of them all but nothing prepares you for the way it changes the appearance of the bike. It's definitely taking some getting used to...then again I also think the Barker is hella ugly, but I have grown to love it
It's definitely not pretty, but I'm curious to hear your final assessment of how you like it compared to stock. If it works well, looks be damned. (Hell, that was my justification for buying the 1125R in the first place!)
The Corsa Windscreen is available from Erik Buell Racing. I think it's $120 or something like that.
It works really well on the track and I've come to like it better than a stock configuration for being able to tuck in. I'm not all that concerned about how it looks on the track bike, just functionality. My track bike has a quarter-inch thick coating of grasshopper schmutz on it from the infestation this last month anyway.
I've not tried one on the street -- I've only run OEM shapes there.
Just returned from a backroad blast of about 100 miles. I was running 80-90 in the straight sections so I got some idea of what the new screen is doing.
For me, it works best when I ride in a semi upright position. The windstream then seems to part around either side of the helmet. I can feel it pouring over my shoulders and sides of my neck.
If I lean forward like I am used to doing I get some strong buffetting. Apparently I am intercepting the angle of deflection off the screen in some turbulent manner with my helmet.
Sort of counterintuitive. Once I figured it out I was finding a nice comfort zone in a relaxed position while topping 120 MPH.
At full tuck I can get out of the wind much better than with the stock screen. I'll give that a better test with some top speed pulls sometime this weekend.
So despite being hideous the ST screen is allowing me to ride above 80 in a more relaxed position. I no longer feel like the wind is trying to tear me off the bike.
Several hundred miles later and I can say the ST screen is working out great for me. Maybe for someone a little lower in the saddle the Corsa would be just right.
Do you find your triceps getting more tired with that screen? I found the stock screen just right (at 5'11") averaging 85ish mph with the wind pressure keeping the weight of my wrists. I like to slouch a bit though.
I have found some new muscles for sure...between the Cycle Pirate pegs moving my feet down and back and the taller screen I've slightly changed my riding position.
Took a 300 mile road trip Sunday and had a chance to do some WOT runs and being able to tuck behind the screen is a real pleasure. Before I'd have to stick my ass up in the air and press hard on the airbox and still could barely get under the wind. Now I just lean forward and roll on the throttle without any hitching up the britches
Hit 150MPH...usually I have trouble getting above 140. Ran at 100 for periods of time not even tucked...just sitting there. That's different.
I run the same windscreen on mine and at 75+ mph still have adequate air pressure on my shoulders to lift the weight off my arms so I can relax cruising.
